The Clinical Engineering Generalist I in the Sterilizing department at UPMC is responsible for servicing infection control and patient care equipmentthroughout UPMC. Equipment includes, but not limited to; steam sterilizers,instrument washers, endoscope reprocessors, surgical lights, and surgicaltables. Position requires basic electronics knowledge with ability to readschematics. Exceptional mechanical skills with basic understanding of plumbing,hydraulics, and electomechanical devices. Candidate will receive factorytraining as well as field training under experienced technicians.
Maintain records of all work activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System and Kronos.
Participate in continuing education.
Participates in on-call rotation as indicated by director.
Priority Class 'Low' Equipment includes but is not limited to: Lab equipment, physical therapy equipment, saws, dental equipment, compressors, and general patient care equipment, arthroscopy instruments, standard scissors, forceps, retractors, elevators, ortho curettes, osteotomes, chisels, bone cutters, printer and PC peripherals.
Routinely perform preventive maintenance, inspection and repair of Low Priority type medical equipment.
Travel between UPMC sites, hospital affiliates, and institutions for services with BioTronics Inc. is required as needed. Use of personal vehicle may be required.
Understand and implement specific regulatory requirements.
Understand and operate all standard test equipment.
With direct supervision, occasionally performs preventive maintenance, inspection and repairs of medium priority type medical equipment.
With direct supervision, provide consultation to administration, nursing, and medical staff regarding operational, training, application and technological advancements of medical instrumentation.
Associates degree in Biomedical/Electrical/Computer/ IT Information Technology or Journeyman papers (if applicable) or equivalent military training and/or experience is required.
Zero-two years of hospital or manufacturers service experience and/or demonstrates equivalent proficiencies is required.
General knowledge of electronics, digital circuitry operations and Information Technology, or surgical instrumentation (as applicable).
General knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, physics, chemistry, optics, pneumatics, hydraulics, hospital structure and regulatory requirements (as applicable).
General Computer skills as required to operate a Computerized Maintenance Management System.
May in the course of duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with the medications is allowed.
