This position coordinates nutritional care of residents of the facility who are at increased nutritional risk and requires the development, implementation and review of individual resident's Nutritional Plan of Care to assure attainment and maintenance of optimal nutritional status. Position works to honor resident food choices when possible.

In addition, this position has the responsibility to document the nutritional status and intervention in resident charts and ensure that the appropriate diet is being received by the resident. This position provides nutrition therapy to the unit residents. In addition, this position provides nutritional/diet in-service training to staff and consultation to residents and their families.

About Longleaf Neuro-Medical Treatment Center:

The Longleaf Neuro-Medical Treatment Center is a 200-bed facility with skilled and intermediate care residents. Residents are admitted from State psychiatric hospitals and/or community referrals for the Alzheimer's Treatment Program.

The residents have a variety of needs that require nursing care. The facility offers long-term care to meet acute and chronic needs of the resident. Ages of the residents are between the second and ninth decade of life (primarily 65 years of age or older). Staff must be prepared to work with psychiatric/behavioral, geriatric, and medical-surgical problems.

The facility endeavors to provide nursing care to meet the biological, psychological and social needs of the resident and to provide a home-like environment. Interventions are provided to enhance the resident's quality of life and medical recovery.

  • Considerable knowledge of principles of normal/therapeutic nutrition and ability to apply the knowledge for nutritional treatment of specific diseases.

  • The ability to assess, plan, counsel and direct nutrition care based on accepted principles/practices of nutrition and dietetics.

  • Knowledge of food service operation and human behavior/ techniques for affecting behavior change.

  • Skill in writing clear/concise entries utilizing current medical record procedures for care plans, progress notes etc.

  • Ability to monitor/maintain quality standards for nutritional care using current standards/practices.

Master's degree in foods and nutrition or a related area from an appropriately accredited institution that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and current registration, in good standing, administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)

OR

Bachelor's degree in foods and nutrition, dietetics, or related area from an appropriately accredited institution that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and current registration, in good standing, administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and two years of experience in a clinical dietary setting.North Carolina State Government is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
