Clinical Data Abstracter
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Medical Record Abstracting and Database Management
Under the direction of an Associate Professor/Principal Investigator, abstracts and codes information from patient medical records to obtain clinical and research data for retrospective studies. Integrates the data from multiple sources. Responsible for interactive quality review of abstracted data. Assigns and enters information into coded form
Develops and maintains databases for collection of research studies. Enters the information into the database completely and accurately. Saves and stores information and maintains database security and integrity.
Assists in the preparation of scheduled status reports describing interim data
Makes survival call and appropriately record the data
Performs basic statistical analysis, generate data reports, protocol summary reports and user generated data reports as requested
Prepares reports for the sponsoring agency
Coordination of activities related to translational and retrospective clinical studies
Develops and maintains a process and tracking system for all protocol-related research biospecimens. Facilitates transfer of biospecimens in adequate conditions.
Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team as necessary to achieve the objectives of translational and retrospective clinical studies.
Assist in obtaining consent for translational studies.
Maintain a high level of professional expertise and credibility through educational programs, including on-site training and off-site conferences
Attend departmental research meetings and conferences.
Attend approved off-site meetings and conferences.
Supplement education as needed through use of reference materials, lectures, etc.
Be punctual in arriving at all professional functions.

Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Expeirence Required: Two years of experience in tumor registry, healthcare, or related field. Additional years of education may be substituted for required experience on a one to one year basis.
