Coordinates the day-to-day operation of the X-ray department. Under minimal supervision, performs diagnostic x-ray procedures as requested by a physician to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Assists with maintaining ACR accreditation for x-ray, if applicable. Trains and serves as a resource person in handling difficult or unusual situations. Acts as a positive role model for staff.

Works with staff and Radiologists to develop and implement x-ray department policies and protocols. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the population of the patients served on his/her unit. Performs other duties as assigned. Performs any combination of the following duties depending on the area of assignment.

1.Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the X-ray Department.

2.Performs a variety of diagnostic x-ray procedures such as but not limited to, head, chest, spine, abdomen, and pelvis. Assists physicians in performing other x-ray procedures as need.

3.Transports patients by stretcher, bed, wheelchair, or walking. Provides care for patients during transportation and within the department as necessary.

4.Assists patients by lifting and moving them off and on the scanning table. Provides bedpans and urinals as needed. Assures that patients are properly dressed for their procedures.

5.Prepares patient for exam by consenting, explaining exam and answering patient questions.

6.Cares for patient during procedures by assisting them to rest rooms, giving them blankets, etc.

7.Evaluates patient condition pre and post-procedure and reports changes in the patient's condition to nurses or Radiologist for follow-up.

8.Assists with emergency medical treatment under physician direction.

9.Pulls contrast from Pyxis per protocol and documents contrast in eMar per protocol. Mixes oral and rectal contrast per protocol for pertinent exams.

10.Performs related duties such as reporting equipment malfunctions, assists others, and special assignments. Cleans work area, orders and maintains the department inventory of supplies.



  1. Reviews and verifies outpatient orders for the following day. Makes appropriate calls to physician to verify orders if needed.

  2. Serves as a resource person for the technologists, referring Physicians, Radiologists, patient care departments, and other department staff.

  3. Keeps the x-ray department staff informed on system and/or operation changes.


14.Attends regularly scheduled department meetings and in-services to maintain working knowledge of changes in equipment and protocols.

15.Participates actively in Performance Improvement and Quality measures.



  1. Responsible for staff competency and training.

  2. Is competent in Meditech, PACS and Pyxis as it pertains to imaging and patient care.

  3. Works closely with Radiologist and Department Supervisor/Manager to develop and implement x-ray policies and protocols.

  4. Works with Supervisor/Manager to maintain ACR accreditation if applicable.


20.Performs other duties as assigned.

Education: Work requires the completion of a two-year Radiologic Technology training program approved by the American Medical Association (AMA).

Licensure: CRT certification, ARRT(R) certification and Fluoroscopy certification are required. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards required.

Experience: At least three years of experience as a licensed technologist.

The hourly rate for this position is $60.26 - $73.25. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position.
