Job Requirements:

Minimum Education

Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing. BSN preferred.

If no BSN upon hire, will enroll in program within 6 months of hire. CAPA or CPAN required within 1 year of hire.

Minimum Work Experience

Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience in acute care/PACU. Minimum of 5 years experience in the Operating Room.

Registered Nurse

  • Will complete education related to building clinical teams, crucial conversations and other leadership education as needed per goals and evaluations. BLS,ACLS, PALS, are required. AORN standards education of 10 CEU's yearly must be completed.

Functional Demands:

Language Ability

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals as related to productivity and cost effectiveness. Professional journals, technical procedures Joint commission and AAMI regulations. Ability to write reports,

business correspondence, procedure manuals and policies. Ability to effectively present

information and respond to questions from Surgeons, physicians, nurses, surgical technicians, sterile processing technicians and the general public.

Math Ability

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical

situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills

Ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, as well as web-

based database programs and the Internet.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Considerable lifting, positioning, and transferring of patients. Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking.

Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Must possess good manual and finger dexterity. Visual requirements include near and far acuity, depth perception, color differentiation, and focusing ability.

Hearing, speech, and sense of touch essential. Occasional repetitive motion activities.

Environmental Working Conditions

Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne disease and other infectious diseases. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.

May be exposed to/occasionally exposed to patient elements, i.e., accidents, injuries, and illnesses. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations; potentially violent or angry patients and families; emergencies and crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours/shifts.

Frequently required to function competently with multiple demands and tasks. Maybe exposed to environmental hazards in patient homes. May be exposed to noxious and potentially hazardous fumes.

Population Served

Neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. All genders, race, ethnic, sociopolitical, demographic, marital and sexual preference groups, developmental and physical abilities, religions, and nationalities. Population may have impairments of any or all body systems and senses.

Essential Functions:

Provides and oversees clinical care for a group of patients providing specific assessments according to protocols and procedures, clinical competence in procedural skills, treatments, and patient/caregiver education.

Organizes and prioritizes clinical responsibilities, provides direct supervision to clinical staff (RN, ST, CST, CRCST, Sterile processing techs, HUC's, patient navigator).

Collaborates with physicians, Department Director, Medical Director, and other clinicians and hospital staff regarding patient needs.

Fosters a patient-centered culture with an emphasis on purposeful rounding, AIDET, and bed-side shift report.

Collaborates with Department Director, physicians, and unit staff to achieve department quality indicators.

Engages in staff development, arranging regular inservices as well as providing individual instruction and orientation. Coordinates department specific skills development activities. Collaborates with Department Director and Education Department to identify and address department learning needs.

Provides staff recognition through positive reinforcement and constructive feedback.

Collaborates with Department Director in coordination of department objectives - financial (effective staffing and charge capture), patient experience (HCAHPS and outpatient measures), quality and safety, and staff and physician satisfaction and engagement.

Assists Department Director with human resource management by participating in the interview and hiring process, coordinating unit-based orientation, editing time and attendance, providing input for annual performance appraisals and coaching/disciplinary processes.

Promotes Shared Governance as an active member of the Unit-Based Councils.

Consistently looks at current processes and procedures and identifies areas of improvement.

Assists in researching and analyzing incident reports. Collaborates in identifying opportunities for and carrying out performance improvement and Lean activities.

Collaborates in the development and maintenance of department clinical policies and procedures.

Maintains regular communication with the department director.

Assists with department staff meetings and attends other meetings as assigned.

Provides department leadership in the absences of the Department Director.

Fosters teamwork among departments.

Maintains compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies including, but not limited to, the Idaho Nursing Practice Act, CMS, and The Joint Commission.
