The function of this position is to coordinate clinical office activities, under the direction of the physicians, and the schedules of clinical staff. Complies with state and regulatory agencies. Provides support to Certified Nursing Assistants and Certified Medical Assistants functioning in the Medical Assistant position in the clinical setting. Prioritizes incoming phone calls by assessing the caller's symptoms and advising them in basic treatment or urges them to seek care in the office or the emergency department. Exhibits effective communication. Stays current with diseases processes, outbreaks and any information that would be beneficial for staff. Completes required documentation consistent with the system used in the facility. Develops and trains clinical staff.

Performs a variety of tasks for the patients and providers including but not limited to triaging patients, taking patient vitals, obtaining medical information, charting, preparing exam rooms, and other duties as assigned.

Essential functions include utilizing the nursing process to

  • Assess and evaluate the patient population during initial phone conversation.

  • Perform or assist with treatments, therapies and procedures.

  • Incorporate evidence based practice.

  • Coordinate the evaluation, testing, management and follow-up of patients in collaboration with the attending physician and other members of the healthcare team.

  • Promote and assist the development of education materials for patients and families in support of clinical practice of the medical staff.

  • Provide education pertinent to patient care for hospital personnel and other health care providers.

  • Perform testing as ordered.

  • Participate in other educational events to maintain current expertise and provide training to other support staff within the office.

  • Function in a multidisciplinary capacity with other health care professionals.

  • Participate and conduct performance improvement activities.

  • Interpret and analyze data.

  • Participate with Committee and governance activities.

  • Assist with development of policies, procedures, and standards reflective of evidenced based practice.

QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are the minimum requirements necessary to adequately perform this job. However, any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities would be acceptable, subject to any legal and/or regulatory requirements.

A. Licensure: Registered Nurse with unencumbered license eligible to practice in the state of North Carolina.

B. Work experience: Prefer two years experience working in a physician's office.

C. Knowledge, skills and abilities required: Must have the ability to work independently, have strong oral skills, good basic math skills and be computer literate.

D. BLS certification maintained. Must be American Heart Association

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Extended periods of walking, standing, bending and stooping may be required. Ability to hear clearly and have visual acuity necessary for computer use. Ability to do repetitive work, keyboarding and writing. Ability to lift 25 pounds. Ability to hear and distinguish heart, lung, and bowel sounds.
