POSITION SUMMARY:

Licensed Respiratory Therapist who evaluates patients; plans and implements treatment plans based on the evaluation. Re-evaluates, and modifies treatment programs as necessary and educates patients, families, and staff. Supervises respiratory therapy assistants and aides in performing treatment.

Essential Functions:

Performs initial and ongoing assessments of patient's condition.

Establishes a plan of care which is appropriate to problems identified and involves the patient according to his or her capabilities and desires and educates patients, families and staff.

Plans, prepares and carries out individually designed programs of treatment to maintain, improve, or restore respiratory functioning, alleviate pain, and prevent respiratory dysfunction in patients.

Performs therapy interventions utilizing standard respiratory therapy techniques and skills as appropriate for the age and condition of the patient.

Directs and supervises respiratory therapy assistants, students, and other support personnel. Assesses competence, delegates specific tasks, and establishes channels of communication.

Identifies and documents goals, anticipated progress and plans for reevaluation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education: Associate's degree required.

Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Certifications:

• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS)
• AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 3 months and maintained thereafter
• AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 3 months and maintained thereafter
• AHA Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) within 3 months and maintained thereafter.

Licenses: Licensed as Registered Respiratory Therapist with NC Respiratory Board and current Respiratory Care Practitioner with National Board of Respiratory Care (nbrc.org)
