SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for coordinating mental health services at the Counseling Center, including mental health screening, facilitation of student referrals to campus and community resources, consultation and support of clinician activities, providing outreach and prevention, and collaborating with other student services on-campus. This position works closely with the entire Counseling Center staff, and interfaces with the Student Advocacy & Support, the Dean of Students office, Student Health Services, Student Disability Services, Residential Living and Learning, faculty and staff, families, other campus departments, and community entities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strengthen collaborations, and broaden resources and connections by partnering with all other student services on campus

  • Initiate, develop, and maintain on-going liaison relationships with community mental health entities, including service providers, hospitals, and other resources

  • May provide brief clinical interventions while students are in the process of connecting with other treatment services, including the possibility of offering individual or group contact for the purpose of assessment or support

  • Provide skills training to students on self-advocacy, navigating multiple services and resources, and connecting with mental health services

  • Create and maintain an updated comprehensive referral database of on-campus and community mental health resources

  • Assist clinicians with voluntary and involuntary hospitalization of students in crisis and coordinate post-hospitalization follow-up care through collaboration with inpatient services and/or Student Advocacy & Support; ensuring that students are connected with services upon discharge

  • Monitor and coordinate care for students with complex mental health and psychosocial needs to ensure clear provider to provider communication and to prevent duplication of services

  • Assist the Counseling Center clients and clinicians in locating and arranging community based mental health and social services when needs are beyond the scope of Counseling Center services; collaborate with the Office of Student Advocacy & Support as appropriate

  • Work cooperatively as part of an interdisciplinary team at the Counseling Center, assists in crisis follow-up, and clinical care coordination

  • Interacts with contacts such as mental health and medical professionals, faculty and staff, administrators, and/or students' families about individual students as the need arises and confidentiality permits. Communicate and consult with the same constituencies in regard to treatment of individual clients and implementation of clinical services

  • Develop and deliver substance use prevention programs

  • Provides same-day crisis intervention services, campus outreach, prevention, and psycho-educational activities

  • Assist in review of after-hours crisis call documentation to assess risk and determine need for follow-up by a counseling provider

  • Serve as the primary point of contact within the Counseling Center who is responsible for the cultivation of a broad referral network of licensed clinicians, hospitals, and treatment centers that support and reflect the needs of our student body

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education and Experience: Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling/Clinical Psychology, or similarly related field. Prior to application, 1) Master's degree in Social Work must have passed the Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) state board exam, 2) Master's degree in Counseling must have a passing score on the National Counseling Examination (NCE) and eligible for LPC-Associate license in the state of Texas. Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors (LCDC's) are eligible to apply.

  • Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Excellent grasp of referral processes and procedures.

  • Appropriate interpersonal skills to provide high quality care assistance to A&M-Commerce students

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to respond promptly

  • Demonstrated skill in working well under pressure to prioritize and manage multiple clinical responsibilities

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and comfort with utilizing other relevant software

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) in the state of Texas. Must maintain licensure for continued employment.

  • Advanced knowledge of case management best practice

  • Experience providing case management, crisis intervention, and care coordination to young adults and/or college students from a variety of backgrounds

  • Familiar with local resources and comfort seeking resources and building positive professional referral relationships

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a constructive member of the clinical team

  • Prior clinical experience in an interdisciplinary clinic setting

  • Experience with utilizing Titanium Schedule, or other EMR systems

  • Experience with recent advanced trauma training
