The Clinical Case Educator is an important role in our team. The nurse is passionate and is committed to provide a high level of patient care and counseling patients enrolled in the Medication Therapy Program. The ideal candidate has great communication skills, problem solving skills, and must be self-motivated. This person will be driven to help team members to achieve the mission of providing high level of care to patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Counsel and educate new/existing patients on specialty drug therapies

  • Adherence to contracted and accrediting regulations as indicated by drug specification

  • Complete, thorough and accurate documentation utilizing good documentation practice and compliance to industry standards and regulations

  • Discuss potential/current side effects with patients to educate about treatment alternatives and facilitate ongoing therapy adherence

  • Identify and report adverse events (AEs) and product complaints (PCs) to the manufacturer, FDA, and/or other governing authorities

  • Specialty drug verification and education. Provider/patient conduit to support therapeutic longevity.

  • Adherence to patient management programs through call cadence schedules, medication management programing, drug counseling and provider collaboration.

  • Maintenance of patient demographic records, medical history and records in accordance to federal HIPAA standards

  • Collaboration with Pharmacy Support teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of specialty drugs


  • Registered Nurse with current unrestricted compact state license or primary NC licensure

  • Associates, Bachelor or higher degree in Nursing or accredited nursing diploma

  • Ability to obtain licensing in all states and United States territories serviced within 3 months of employment through Biologics supported programming (minimal application guidelines apply)

  • 5 or more years of nursing experience with at least 1 year of acute, inpatient care preferred

  • Computer skills, including e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet and web-based programs

  • Effective orally and in writing communication, experience with motivational interviewing preferably

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret practice standards, professional journals, technical procedures and government standards and regulations

  • Onsite office location only-Cary, NC

The Senior Clinical Edcucator ensures that Sterile Processing staff, both internal and external to STERIS IMS, are properly trained and operating within the guidelines set forth by various industry standards and regulations including, but not limited to IAHCSMM, CBSPD, AORN, The Joint Commission, FDA, CDC, OSHA, AAMI and those of IMS and its customer facilities. Performs various other training duties related to the STERIS IMS and facility employees. Travel up to 100%. Duties * Responsible for supporting large interim, outsource and ORC engagements. * Fulfills standard staff education plus flexible endoscopy, HLD, and onsite certification course contracts. * Researches and industry standards and trends. * Consults Customers and provides educational guidance based on industry research. * Consultative and adaptable to determine Customer needs. * Provides instruction/support for Train the Trainer contracts. * Responsible for hands-on employee training and continuous assessments of skills and knowledge retention utilizing the Circle of Skills assessment tool in areas including decontamination, instrument tray assembly, instrument tray storage, sterilization processes and standard precautions to ensure patient safety and to minimize department pain points related to quality of performance. * Conducts orientation and training program of new employees with no central sterile processing experience including a focus on the following: * SPD certification information review * Surgical Instruments (name and function) * Standard Operating Procedures * Conducts five week orientation and training program of new employees with central sterile processing experience. Duties - cont'd * Develops and maintains an education plan based on the prioritization of training needs in the account and for the development of the technicians on an individual basis. Documents all successes and barriers electronically using the IMS portal. * Maintains real time documentation of education data and adjusts the education plan or communicates with management to ensure progress is maintained and barriers are addressed. * Communicate with the SPD manager and documents communication at least weekly * Regularly (daily) presents training highlights and overviews/refreshers in staff department huddles/shift change meetings. * Provides re-education training and communication for performance issues found in the OR and instrumentation tray audits. * Conducts initial employee assessments and trains to deficiencies noted. * Conducts initial and ongoing training based on IMS standard operating procedures initially in a group setting and then one-on-one as needed. * Supports, advocates, and adheres to STERIS IMS policies and procedures and supports policies and procedures of facility * Conducts additional training needs of IMS and/or facility staff and keeps IMS and/or facility management informed of training progress. * Adjust schedule to work with all employees on all shifts to ensure training needs are met and supported. Ability to work pre-arranged weekend, night, and evening hours. * Develops and maintains a training schedule for continuing education and training for each facility based on needs and with flexibility to adjust to better address pain points of the department.
