CLINICAL (ADN) NURSING ADJUNCT FACULTY

BARGAINING UNIT/NON-UNIT: MCCC/DCE

ANTICIPATED START DATE: Fall 2024

SALARY RANGE: $1, 291 per credit - $1,561 per credit, based on DCE step, per the DCE Contract

THE ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING PROGRAM AT GCC:

The Associate Degree Nursing program is part of the Nursing and Sciences grouping and is directly supervised by the Assistant Dean of Nursing. Program. Personnel include six full time faculty members, seven to eight clinical adjunct instructors, and a full-time administrative assistant, shared with the Practical Nursing program, to provide support. Experienced faculty focus on quality and excellence in teaching and learning with a strong commitment to producing nursing graduates who are prepared to meet challenges in the contemporary healthcare environment including technical, problem solving, and applied skills. GCC's nursing program is held in high regard in the region and has a long history of students exceeding the national NCLEX pass rates for ADN and BSN graduates. The program curriculum is enriched with service learning experiences integrated throughout all four semesters and incorporates high fidelity patient simulation in the skills curriculum and web-enhancements in courses. Our students represent a diverse community of learners including licensed practical nurses who apply for advanced placement in the program and students who have completed more advanced degrees in other fields. Numerous technological platforms are used to enhance student learning and skill development.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the supervision of the Dean of Nursing, this position will teach clinical components of Fundamentals, Medical-Surgical, Psychiatric-Mental Health, Obstetrics, and/or Pediatric course(s) within the Associate Degree Nursing Program.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Instruct clinical components of Fundamentals, Medical-Surgical, Psychiatric-Mental Health, Obstetrics, and/or Pediatric courses within the Associate Degree Nursing program.

  • Take charge of instructional preparation and evaluate student performance.

  • Offer support to students through scheduled appointments.

  • Attend select faculty meetings, including program orientation, clinical facility orientation, and clinical team gatherings.

  • Potentially engage in service-learning initiatives.

  • Provide guidance to nursing students.

  • Forge clinical affiliations with long-term care, rehabilitation, and/or community sites.

  • Aid students in comprehending the contemporary nurse's role in nursing practices.

  • Exemplify professionalism as a role model.

  • Maintain current professional liability insurance and active registration as a Registered Nurse in the State of Massachusetts.

Requirements:

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE*:

  • Possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing;

  • Minimum two (2) years full-time clinical experience in nursing, or its equivalent, within the last five (5) years;

  • Instructional experience in a college or clinical setting;

  • Experience, or ability, to utilize technology in student learning situations equivalent to student expectations in clinical settings.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master of Science in Nursing;

  • Specialty Certification in Nursing Education, Medical Surgical, Pediatric, Obstetrical, Psychiatric, Public Health, Intensive Care Nursing, or in Healthcare Simulation.

  • Community college teaching experience;

  • Experience with curriculum, course design, and evaluation of program outcomes;

  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting cultural competency and diversity within the curriculum and profession;

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Upon hire, the following will be required:

  • Massachusetts Registered Nursing License (an/or Vermont as needed);

  • Current American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR certification);

  • Current Malpractice Insurance;

  • Completed required immunizations, titers, screenings and site-specific education to maintain compliance with specific clinical site standards.
