The primary purpose of this role is to provide student centered teaching and clinical instruction of undergraduate level courses. Faculty in this role will provide student advising, student mentoring, recruitment, curriculum development and conduct scholarly activities.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, engaging in accreditation procedures, program assessment and service to the School, College, and University as needed. This is a 12-month, non-tenure track position.

The John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences (HCHHS) comprises six departments and the School of Nursing.

The HCHHS offers the following undergraduate degree programs; Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Services Management, Kinesiology, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, and Sociology. At the graduate level, HCHHS offers four graduate degree programs including the Master in Physician Assistant Studies (PA program), Master of Social Work (MSW), Master of Science in Health Psychology, and Ph.D in Social Work. Three additional doctoral programs are being developed; Doctor of Nurse Practice (DNP), PhD in Applied Psychology, and PhD in Sociology.

The HCHHS is also home to the Center of Excellence in Integrative Health Disparities and Equity Research (CIHDER), a hub for multidisciplinary research and community engagement efforts to alleviate health inequities. The HCHHS capitalizes on the synergistic relationships between these departments to develop advanced academic programming, enhance the mentoring of trainees, and conduct collaborative multidisciplinary research and scholastic activity.

The School of Nursing is dedicated to equipping individuals for the nursing profession, ensuring they possess the essential skills and knowledge for quality, safe, patient-centered care. Our comprehensive program offerings include three tracks; (i) traditional bachelor of nursing (BSN), (ii) Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN), and (iii) RN to BSN pathways, catering to a diverse range of educational needs.

Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum of a Master's Degree in nursing is required to be hired as a Lecturer.
  • A minimum of a PhD in nursing or DNP are required to be hired as a Clinical Assistant Professor.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Prior teaching experience in baccalaureate and/or graduate nursing programs. Able to be credentialed to meet the North Carolina Board of Nursing's educational requirement.

  • Three years clinical experience related to concepts and theories essential in providing nursing care to psychiatric clients.

  • Nurse Education Certification

Required License or Certification

Must hold a current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in North Carolina or have eligibility to obtain North Carolina Registered Nurse License. If candidate is an Advanced Practice Nurse, must hold national certification.
