The Physical Therapy Program at University of Wisconsin

  • La Crosse invites qualified persons to apply for full-time, 12-month instructional academic staff position available August 2024. This is a new position within our faculty.

This position is seeking an individual who is a developing or an established educator with expertise and willingness to contribute to meeting the program's instructional needs with emphasis on pediatrics, geriatrics, and adult neuro. Mentorship for individuals new to the academic environment is supported.

Candidates will enjoy being part of a collaborative culture and a proven curriculum which equally emphasizes academic success and professionalism. The DPT program supports a variety of clinical research and experiential learning opportunities including the highly successful La Crosse Institute of Movement Science (LIMS) and the community Exercise Program for Adults with Neurologic Disorders (EXPAND).

The Physical Therapy Program is part of the Department of Health Professions, which includes Medical Dosimetry, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Radiation Therapy. Our program consists of 11 dynamic core faculty and a strong complement of adjunct faculty.

We are committed to mentoring new faculty in teaching and scholarship. The department is located in the College of Science and Health.

The Physical Therapy Program is housed in the Health Science Center (HSC), recognized for its spacious, well-appointed teaching labs, classrooms, and established biomechanics, human performance, and anatomy laboratories. Our physical therapy program has strong alliances with national, regional, and local medical centers and practices. The program is proud to support the La Crosse Institute of Movement Science (LIMS), Exercise Program for Adults with Neurologic Disorders (EXPAND) and the Gundersen Sports Medicine Residency Program.

General position summary statement for UWL instructional academic staff positions:

Under general supervision of department chair, a person in this position is responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses. In addition to preparing for and holding classes [face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online], teaching involves maintaining currency in the content area related to the teaching assignment, evaluating students' work, assessing student outcomes, maintaining appropriate records, and holding office hours.

In addition, workload may involve advising students and/or providing other service to the department. Other duties may be assigned by the chair or dean.

  • Be licensed to practice physical therapy in a US jurisdiction by position start date.

  • Have earned a doctoral degree or possess the ability to complete a doctoral degree (DPT or equivalent) earned by the first personnel review, no later than May 31, 2025.

  • Have a minimum of three years' experience as a practicing physical therapist.

  • Have the ability and willingness to engage in scholarly activity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education.

  • Expertise and willingness to contribute to meeting the program's instructional needs with emphasis on pediatrics, geriatrics, and adult neuro.

  • Experience as a clinical educator.

  • ABPTS Board Certification or other advanced clinical certification or willingness to obtain.

  • A history of engagement and service to the profession.

  • Strong professional skills when interacting with students, clinicians, patients, and local/national professional communities.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills, organizational and time management skills.

  • The ability to work in a collaborative environment among a variety of professionals within the University and professional/ clinical communities.

  • The ability to function independently, setting direction and priorities with minimal supervision.

  • Skills in computer applications necessary for teaching, program administration, data collection and analysis.
