Job Information

The Center for Children and Families at Florida International University (FIU) is searching for a Clinical Assistant Professor (non-tenure earning) to support ongoing clinical research with Dr. Dana McMakin's research team (REMEDY Research Group) through the Center for Children and Families.

The position is for 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track clinical faculty. Clinical professor positions are in-unit faculty positions that are renewable annually, benefits eligible, and eligible for promotion opportunities that mirror those of tenure-track faculty. Primary responsibilities will include some direct supervision and training of practicum students from the FIU Clinical Science PhD program in diagnostic assessments of children and adolescents (primarily presenting with internalizing disorders). Based on experience and interests, candidates may also have opportunities for growth in collaborative scientific leadership (e.g.

CO-I or MPI role on clinical research grants) and/or direct provision of clinical services. The successful candidate will hold a PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology or a related field. Candidates should be licensed as a psychologist in Florida.

Pre-licensure candidates may be considered with the expectation of obtaining licensure within one or two years. Spanish language fluency is a plus.

Expertise in evidence-based assessments and treatments for children and adolescents, particularly those with anxiety and/or depression is strongly preferred. Experience and interest in sleep (clinical and research-based interest) is especially welcome but not required.

The CCF is one of six University-Designated Preeminent Programs and has over 35 faculty associates-most of whom are faculty in the FIU Psychology Department-and more than 100 trainees in masters, doctoral, and professional programs who study child and adolescent mental health. The CCF currently has over $98 million of research funding - mostly NIH and IES, and largely based on this CCF funding, FIU's research in psychology is ranked 2nd for research and development expenditures in the US (2022 National Science Foundation HERD Report). The CCF has extensive relationships with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the third largest school district in the U.S., and many community agencies in Miami. The CCF also has a close affiliation with and extensive funding from The Children's Trust, the largest funder of children's services in Miami-Dade County.

The CCF Clinic is an active outpatient mental health clinic providing state-of-the-art, evidence-based mental health services for more than 1,200 children and adolescents yearly. The CCF Clinic provides a wide range of services including individual therapy, group therapy, psychoeducational evaluations, and school consultations.

Opportunities will be available to accrue supervised clinical hours for licensure. The successful candidate will also have access to a variety of continuing education opportunities through the CCF Speaker Series and the Miami International Child and Adolescent Mental Health Conference.

Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply to Job Opening ID 532338 at careers.fiu.edu and attach a cover letter and CV. Candidates will be requested to provide names and contact information for at least 3 references (as well as subsequent letters) who will be contacted as determined by the search committee.

To receive full consideration, applications and required materials should be received by July 6th, 2024. Questions can be directed to Dana L. McMakin, Ph.D., ABPP, Professor of Psychology, Center for Children and Families, Florida International University (dmcmakin@fiu.edu).
