Position Description
The Clinical Assessment Specialist works closely with the Clinical Supervisor to conduct psychological evaluations (dual diagnosis, mental health, and substance abuse), recidivism risk assessments, and presentence investigation assessments for justice involved individuals. The Clinical Assessment Specialist will provide assessment reports and treatment recommendations to the Courts and HCCSCD.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Works closely with the Clinical Supervisor to conduct psychological evaluations (dual diagnosis, mental health, and substance abuse), recidivism risk assessments, and presentence investigation assessments for justice involved individuals.
The Clinical Assessment Specialist will provide assessment reports and treatment recommendations to the Courts and HCCSCD.
Synthesize assessment and testing results and produce a clinical formulation; Communicate the assessment/testing results and clinical formulation effectively in a verbal and written manner.
Adept in assessment administration and interpretation related to personality, dual diagnosis, serious mental illness, and malingering as needed.
Assists in providing consultation to the Courts and Community Supervision Officers regarding clients with mental illness and/or substance abuse problems.
Participate in regular interdisciplinary case consultation to enhance continuity of care.
Assists in training departmental staff of the latest developments in the mental health and substance abuse fields.
Ability to establish working relationships within an interdisciplinary setting (e.g., correctional staff, community supervision officers, judges, attorneys, etc.).
Maintains membership and active participation in professional mental health organizations.
Attends clinical staff meetings, program and departmental meetings as required.
Requires occasional travel throughout the greater Houston area.
Participates in work groups as necessary.
Contributes to and helps create a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a cooperative and amicable manner with supervisors, coworkers, and members of the public.

Requirements
Education and Experience:
Master's Degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work.
Practical experience in clinical assessment, clinical disorders, differential diagnosis, current treatment methods, and in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual-5-TR is required.
Proficient in report writing, including the appropriate use of grammar and spelling, is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Licensure:
Current Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Psychological Associate with Independent Practice, Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), or Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A).
Must become Texas Risk Assessment System (TRAS) certified and maintain certification within the first two attempts. Failure to pass the test may result in termination of employment.
Must have a valid Texas Class C Automobile Operator's License and must be insurable under the Department's automobile insurance program or possess a current Texas ID.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting. This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment which will allow on site and remote work and a 4/10 schedule.Clinical Supervision for LPC-As and LMSWs can be provided.Continuing Education opportunities and license renewal are provided.
