MAIN FUNCTION:
The instructor is a registered nurse who teaches clinical nursing courses in cooperation with other level instructors and is responsible for implementing the curriculum. She/he participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of nursing courses within the level and in the development and evaluation of the total program. Reports to the Assistant Director-Curriculum and Program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
DIRECTION/SUPERVISION
1.Assists the Assistant Director in course design, implementation and evaluation to achieve the objectives of the level and the progress of the students.
2.Directs and supervises students in the nursing process in clinical settings.
3.Participates in clinical teaching utilizing a variety of teaching strategies to facilitate student achievement of course and level objectives.
CLINICAL COMPETENCE
4.Serves as a role model in a clinical specialty demonstrating competence in clinical judgment, selected technical skills and appropriate knowledge base.
5.Actively pursues educational and professional development activities to foster own personal and professional growth and maintain knowledge of current educational principles.
SAFETY/LEGAL
6.Ensures that patient care/nursing practice in the clinical setting meets both safety and risk management standards and legal requirements of licensing boards and regulatory agencies.
BUDGET PLANNING/MONITORING
7.Monitors usage of equipment and supplies to help defray increased budgetary costs.

8.Actively participates in faculty committees.

9.Demonstrates knowledge of Medical Center and school of nursing policies and applies the same in decision making.

EDUCATION
Current RN registration in the State of New York. Master's Degree in nursing required.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Demonstrated competence in a specific area of nursing practice and theory. Demonstrated competence in principles specific to the teaching/learning process.
CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:
CPR required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Light physical effort required. Moderate-heavy objects lifted, some reaching and stooping. Required to be on feet much of the time.
