Every day hundreds of children participate in fun and engaging YMCA summer day camp programs. The Climbing and Challenge Course Camp Counselor serves as a professional role model for our campers grades K-6, by leading through example and guiding campers through activities that teach life skills, encourage healthy and safe behaviors and create a positive camper experience.
This position is responsible for planning, leading, and implementing experiences for children in our Climbing and Challenge Course summer camp. You will also be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in his/her group. Be part of an amazing team of staff focused on teaching teamwork and social skills, and support children as they grow and learn.
Climbing Camp Season runs June 17th
August 30th, some trainings in early June, with the exception of the week of July 4th. Shifts are Monday
Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Climbing/Challenge Course Camps are held at the North King County YMCA's (8 weeks) and South King County YMCA's (2 weeks).
Responsibilities Supervises a group of children to ensure their health, safety and to provide a positive experience for each camper. Plans and implements program activities which may include specialized programming such as archery, outdoor environmental education, aquatics, teen leadership, sports, etc. Professionally engages with parents/guardians to provide pertinent program information and share about their camper's experience. Follows YMCA driving policies and procedures when transporting campers (if program requires camper transport). Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures. Ensures that equipment is clean, safe, set up and stored properly. Attends staff meetings and training programs as required. Other duties as assigned.

You have an eye for quality programing and can build a sense of belonging with the groups you work with.
You are 21 years of age or older and should have:
1-2 years of experience with children in a camp
High school graduate or equivalent
Previous work experience in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games
Ability to model and demonstrate Y values; caring, respect, responsibility and honesty
Experience planning and implementing group activities
Current Driver's License with a minimum 3 years safe driving experience and a driving record which meets or exceeds YMCA standards
Maximum one minor violation
No speeding violation of more than 20mph over the limit
