Astellas is announcing a Client Services Librarian opportunity in Northbrook, IL.
Purpose & Scope of Position:
This position has the responsibility to: (1) execute searches as a primary and overflow searcher worldwide as assigned; (2) recommend latest data science tools and the technologies to resolve complex information research questions; and (3) to participate in training Astellas employees as assigned.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Expertly executing searches and creating alerts in premium pharmaceutical and business database (i.e. ProQuest Dialog, Cortellis, Pharmapendium, Informa, Elsevier, Micromedex, QUOSA, etc.) to ensure timely turnaround of top quality information service to internal global clients in accordance with the Astellas Library Best Practice standards, procedures, tools including conducting reference interviews and use of library templates for deliverables
Assessing and recommending latest technology to resolve complete information research questions, including data science, visualization, machine learning and other relevant technologies.
Delivering outreach training and orientation to the library portal's key stakeholders worldwide for key resources as assigned; contributing to the development and testing of customized stand-alone tools for the portal; participating in organizing vendor and librarian training for all teams and locations. Participating in measuring, use and uptake metrics for the portal and all key resources
Contributing to the development, evaluation and testing of library, portal, content and solutions.
Participating in trouble shooting issues with vendors and IT support for users globally in accessing the global library portal resources, including QUOSA in collaboration with Portal/ Technical Services.
Assisting the library with the efficient acquisition and payment for content and services through the use of MyBuy, P2P and pcards, if necessary.
Documenting and representing the needs of key stakeholders based on search requests. Staying up-to-date on the latest pharmaceutical library solutions and evaluating how these would address current gaps or needs. Exploring and recommending best-in-class products to meet Astellas current and future needs, collaborating with library team.
This position will support improving the best use of research tools used by Astellas Medical and Development organization, Marketing Strategy, Commercial and HR teams throughout Astellas globally. This position will have impact of improving use of premium globalized resources and accelerating access to critically important resources (example of uses: competitive intelligence, developing clinical trial protocols, and deciding the location of clinical trials). This position supports access to a current $15 million investment in global library resources supporting one hundred (100+) plus products and compounds in development globally in Astellas focused therapeutic areas.
At least three years of pharmaceutical or corporate library experience in searching roles.
Experience in searching DIALOG, and other premium databases (Thomson Reuters Cortellis, Informa, Elsevier, Micromedex, etc.) and advanced Internet searching skills.
Familiarity or experience using data mining, visualization or machine learning tools.
Excellent organizational skills. The ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and demands.
Knowledge in multi-national copyright and licensing principles and issues.
Ability to participate in a global, matrixed team environment
Fluent in written and verbal business English
Good oral, written, deliverable and presentation skills.
Masters in Library and Information Sciences, from an American Library Association accredited program or appropriate equivalent EU education Three years pharmaceutical industry library database searching experience preferred
Undergraduate degree in a health sciences
