Position Summary

The Client Service Coordinator (Pathology) provides oversight and direction of the section's daily activities including personnel management in the form of performance documentation, training, competency documentation, and job assignment under the general direction of the section supervisor.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  • Maintains, documents, and monitors the sections daily activities and procedures. Helps with scheduling and provides coverage as directed by section supervisor.

  • Represents the best interests of the department, acting in lead capacity in the absence of a supervisor in order to act as a resource for staff in handling and addressing issues, and exercising sound judgment in problem situations. Acts as a problem solver, follow-up liaison for client issues for staff and supervisor.

  • Maintains broad knowledge and technical expertise of the section. Oversees training and competency of staff. Recognizes, recommends and implements opportunities to improve services.

  • Communicates with respect and concern to patients, physicians, employees and visitors by responding to meet their needs and expectations in a caring and pleasant manner at all times.

  • Assembles and provides appropriate audit and performance data as directed by section supervisor.

  • Documents section and staff workflow and performance.

  • Consistently applies infection control policies and procedures. Meets population specific competencies. Attends departments education and training in-services.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 4 years as a Laboratory Technician in a hospital setting.

  • Excellent communication & organizational skills.

  • IATA certification 6.2 Infectious Substances, biological specimens, dry ice, and related materials for shipping and handling, preferred.

  • 2 years college and/or 3 years laboratory experience.

  • Cerner Millennium experience required.

Position Summary Assists in the operation of a laboratory by performing specialized tasks involving medical laboratory testing. Performs and reports results, proof tests and assumes responsibility for accuracy. Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job * Performs procedures which include calibrating of instruments, assessing accuracy of equipment, determining accuracy of tests, ensuring they are reproducible; responsible for quality control. * Reads test results and examines and interprets outcome to identify departures from "norms." Activities may include hematological, biochemical, serological and microbiologic tests, as well as preparing/dispensing blood products. * Performs preanalytic, analytic, and postanalytic assessments to ensure accurate and reliable results according to policies and procedures. * Responsibilities include simple maintenance and adjustment of equipment and making up more difficult reagents. * Assists in training and orientation of new laboratory personnel and students. * Directs non-licensed laboratory personnel in accordance with current State of California business and professional code. * Performs specialized tasks and/or advanced decision making for the section. * Assists in Quality Control (QC) and Proficiency Testing * The Technical Specialist may function as Lead or primary resource/subject matter expert for the technical division assigned. Minimum Requirements Qualifications/Work Experience: * 3-5 years working experience in area of expertise. * Excellent organization, communication, and people skills required. Education/Licensure/Certification: * Bachelor degree in a science discipline. * Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Limited Specialty License by the State of California required.
