Description

  • This position is 40 hours per week, must be able to work Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm*

The Client Office Phlebotomist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections per age related standards.

  • Provides appropriate post-phlebotomy patient care.

  • Identifies need for patient medical assistance and call code as appropriate.

  • Reviews/Records refrigerator temperature(s) and QC/QA records. Areas of concern are recorded through the Corrective Action Log and reported to maintenance for repair. Findings are reported to supervisor or manager.

  • Use manual requisitions and labels specimens appropriately.

  • Label and process specimens according to establishes protocols and policies.

  • Must effectively procure blood specimens from infant, adult, geriatric, and wheelchair bound patients.

  • Must demonstrate competency for age related responsibilities.

  • Understands the operation and maintenance of equipment pertinent to the job.

  • Follows up with all outstanding orders on manifest log, and communicates all timed, completed or uncompleted draws/charges/results to the client office staff and performs other duties as assigned.

  • Requests/obtains written physician orders with all required information necessary for lab services requested and accurately orders laboratory tests in computer system(s).

  • Prioritizes tasks and is able to multi-task.

  • Performs and collects phlebotomy specimens within cost and maintains efforts of a less than 2 percent recollection or cancellation rate.

  • Follows TJC National Patient Safety goals in regard to two patient identifiers and handwashing.

  • Presents a friendly, approachable, professional demeanor and appearance.

  • Provides accurate information and timely updates to patients and customers.

  • Addresses questions and concerns promptly, or identifies appropriate person or recourse to do so.

  • Demonstrates teamwork by helping co-workers within and across departments.

  • Communicates and notifies Laboratory and/or Physician of problems with specimen procurement to ensure optimal care.

  • Provides follow up on test results to appropriate individuals in a professional and courteous manner.

  • Continuously updated on information by reading emails and demonstrates compliance in MediaLab.

  • Maintains a safe work environment, holds self-accountable for safe work practices, performs all aspects of daily work in a manner that contributes and ensures an environment of patient safety.

  • Adheres to all recommendations and requirements of the Lab and Hospital Safety Committee.

  • Performs all aspects of patient care in a manner that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.

  • Performs clerical work; faxing, printing, filing, reviewing, and verbally releasing laboratory results.

  • Initiates the meeting of responsibilities without prompting and can complete tasks independently without immediate supervision.

  • Demonstrates the values of team concept on a consistent basis.

  • Interacts with all team members in a professional manner and aids/assists coworkers to complete assigned tasks.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Phlebotomy certification or training from a phlebotomy school/institution or equivalent experience.

Preferred:

  • New grads to one year of experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patients types.

  • Experience with processing lab specimens, transferring specimens, and handling a centrifuge.

  • Familiar with medical EMR systems.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Phlebotomy certification through nationally recognized organization (ASCP).

You are the first face a patient sees when they walk in the door and will be responsible for a variety of activities related to patient intake and care. Patient Service Representatives are given the opportunity to build long lasting relationships with Patients, families and Physicians which ultimately lead to growth and Career stability. Responsibilities Customer Service * Answer telephone calls in a clear, calm and professional manner. Screen calls by urgency and route calls promptly, accurately, and professionally to appropriate party. * Make, cancel and reschedule patient appointments maintaining appointment schedule according to office procedure. * Gather, verify and enter demographic and insurance information on new and established patients necessary for completion of electronic health record and insurance claim processing at each patient visit on patient accounting system. * Assist with proactive charge capture along with billing accuracy for providers and patients. * Collect payments, issue receipts and reconcile daily receivable activity to prepare for daily deposits. * Open and/or close the clinic following specified guidelines of individual clinic. Administrative/Clerical Support * Work independently and responsible for timely completion of assigned functions. * Be aware of what is happening in clinic/department and the organization by attending clinic/department meetings, reading emails and regularly checking information on the organization's intranet site. * Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work. * Maintain compliance with CLIA, OSHA, Safety and Risk Management guidelines. * Maintain compliance with Personnel policies and procedures. * Monitor environmental conditions in order to secure protected health information. * Behave in a manner consistent with all Corporate Compliance and HIPAA policies and procedures. * Demonstrate initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations. * Balance team and individual responsibilities; be open and objective to other's views; give and welcome feedback; contribute to positive team goals; and put the success of the team above own interests. * Perform other duties as requested by Clinic Administrator to facilitate the smooth and effective operations of the office. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Requirements Identify items that are minimally required to perform the essential functions of this position. Preferred or Specialized Not required to perform the essential functions of the position. Education: * High School or Vocational School graduate Experience: * Previous medical office experience preferred. * Previous experience with an electronic health record or medical office software preferred. * Previous experience coding diagnoses and procedures with ICD09-CM and CPT preferred. License(s)/Certification(s): * Mandatory Reporter certification.
