Salary: $52,000 / year

New Hire Sign On Bonus: $3000; $1000 upon completion of 30 days, $1000 upon completion of 6 months, $1000 upon completion of 12 months

The Program Director of the Client and Community Empowerment (CCES) program provides leadership in the planning and implementation of services geared toward organizing and sponsoring events to raise the awareness of the general public, community leaders, and government officials about mental health and mental illness. Develop group supported employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities, including transitional age youth and homeless populations. Exercises significant judgment and initiative in all areas of the operation which relate to the mission of CCES in helping to reduce stigma and discrimination through partnerships with community members and individuals with disabilities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Organize and sponsor events to raise the awareness of the general public, community leaders, and government officials about mental health and mental illness.

  • Provide opportunities for Participants and the general public to take part in shared activities.

  • Provide both individual and system advocacy for persons with mental health challenges.

  • Provide access to services and supports to meet the needs of Participants to enable them to live, work,and participate in their communities, thus promoting a greater understanding of one another.

  • Help reduce stigma and discrimination by working on various projects and events in the Greater Boston area.

  • Offer peer to peer support and mentoring opportunities.

  • Emphasize use of and participation in natural supports in the community to promote recovery.

  • Promote empowerment and skill building experiences for Participants.

  • Direct and manage the activities of CCES staff. Provide direction, supervision, and coaching in areas of event planning, community partnerships, and budget expenditures. Advise facilitation in specialized approaches for working with individuals. Conduct performance, planning, and review sessions. Apply recognition and rewards programs, counseling, disciplinary and corrective action programs, as necessary.

  • Participate in sourcing, interviewing, and hiring new staff members appropriate to the position. Help refine job descriptions and job listings. Provide orientation for new staff members. Utilize staff appropriately with the goal of optimizing effort and achieving outcomes and fulfilling the mission of CCES.

  • Attend staff meetings, DMH meetings, and planning meetings regarding CCES activities.

  • Work with Friends of Metro Boston Advisory Committee. Attend meetings and report on events

  • Sensitivity to the cultural, religious, ethnic, disability, and gender issues

  • Knowledge of human, legal, civil rights, community, and other resources

  • Skills and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with program clients

  • Knowledge of empowerment and self-advocacy techniques

  • Knowledge of available community and mental health services, including equipment, therapies, and service providers

  • Extensive knowledge of operations management procedures and practices
