POLICE PATROL OFFICER
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
The work of the commissioned police officer involves responsibilities for the protection of life and property, prevention and investigation of crimes, apprehension of criminals, general enforcement of laws and ordinances and the upholding of the Constitution of the United States and the State of Idaho in protecting the rights and liberties of the citizens and all those within the City of Rexburg.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Incumbent works under the direction of the Chief of Police through direct supervision of the Patrol Division Lieutenant and Patrol Sergeants.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Skilled operation of a motor vehicle
Administer First Aid as required
Enforce City, State, and Federal Laws and Ordinances
Interview and interrogation of victim's and suspects.
Make sound judgments and draw appropriate conclusions from facts presented
Work under stressful conditions and rotating shifts.
Reporting
Input of information into Crime Management Software
Type reports containing all pertinent information in written chronological order
Create documents for court such as Probable Cause Statements
Arrest reports
Search Warrants and Returns
Prepare clear, accurate, and complete reports on any and all activities engaged in
Daily activity logs
Provide clear and accurate court testimony
Conduct Accident Investigations
Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations
Conduct searches of persons, vehicles, places, and things
Transfer and pass accurate, timely information to relevant person(s)
Serve Search Warrants and seize evidence
Serve Arrest Warrants
Vehicle and Foot patrols of residential areas, businesses, schools, and etc.
Liaison for the Chief of Police on numerous boards and committees
Able to pass all required department trainings and qualifications such as "Firearms Qualification" and "Physical Fitness" Testing
Equipment Maintenance and Upkeep
Includes such things as assigned vehicles, weapons, uniforms and all other department issued and assigned equipment
OTHER RELATED DUTIES
Crowd control
Parades, gatherings and other events, and etc.
Provide security for special events
Supervise Community Service projects
May handle animal control problems and concerns
Attend and speak at meetings, seminars and conferences as a department representative
Block Parties, Safety Meetings, Church and Civic groups, and etc.
Assist other divisions when needed; be able to cover shifts
Oversee Child Safety Seat program: o Certified installers
Other duties as requested.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
High School Diploma, GED or Idaho Approved Equivalence. College is preferred.
Must have a valid Idaho Driver's License
Must be at least 21 years of age
Must have no serious criminal convictions
Must be capable of completing job related physical agility, written, psychological, oral board, and C.V.S.A. (Voice Stress) testing
Minimum 40 hours of updated training every two years in a Law Enforcement field
Have knowledge of streets, addresses, and layout of City
Ability to use all required computer hardware and software
Able to pass all required department trainings and qualifications such as "Firearms Qualification" and "Fitness testing"
Have firm knowledge, understanding, and ability to abide by the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics on and off duty
Must be able to work shift work, including both night and day shifts, on a rotating schedule
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Tasks require a variety of physical activities periodically involving muscular strain related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting and reaching. Essential functions require talking, hearing and seeing. Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Frequent local travel required in course of performing portions of job functions. Elements of the job pose various degrees of hazard uncertainty common to law enforcement.

The hiring range for this position is $51,628.54 - $62,814.01 depending on certifications and experience.
POST Certification is preferred, but we will consider entry level.
The testing dates for this position will be 08/26/24 for physical and written testing and Oral boards will be 08/27/2024
Start date for position will be 10/05/2024
