DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES
Under close supervision, employees in this class perform the least difficult clerical work involving the application of office procedures of limited complexity. As the employee becomes familiar with the specific work methods and procedures, their work is performed with some independence of action.
Duties may include but are not limited to: Sorting, filing and retrieving materials from files; handling public contact and answering phones; typing simple assignments; checking or reviewing clerical records for completeness; accuracy and conformance with prescribed office practices where no complicated problems are involved; and other duties as assigned.
Clerks are employed throughout Wayne County including Downriver, Western Wayne County and Detroit, including departments such as the Juvenile Detention Facility, the Office of the Wayne County Sheriff and in the County Clerk's Office among others.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT AT THE JUVENILE DETENTION FACILITY
As a condition of employment, appointees must:
1.Obtain and submit with application, Family Independence Agency Central Registry Clearance, and annually therafter;
2.Be willing to accept appointments to any one of the three shifts in any five-day work week schedule, Monday through Sunday, including holidays.
3.Agree to criminal history check and subject to periodic criminal checks.
4.Provide three (3) educational or professional letters of recommendation. Letters must be from persons unrelated to appointee and be less than twelve (12) months old. Letters must include relationship to applicant, phone number and mailing address.
Applicants must be available to work all shifts and mandatory overtime, as needed.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT AT THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT
A criminal background check will be performed prior to appointment and annually thereafter as well as a random drug screen. Candidates must receive Jail Security Clearance before being appointed to this position.
