The Prince George's County Office of Human Rights is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Clerk to the Commissioner,grade G17, in the Investigation Division.

About the Position

This is highly responsible and advanced administrative work to support the commissioners' monthly Commission meetings. Incumbents must apply excellent working knowledge and handle sensitive/confidential issues. The incumbent must perform all duties without direct and immediate supervision in an efficient, professional manner. Flexibility to workday or evening hours of 20 hours per week. Work performance is evaluated in terms of accuracy, and timely completion of projects and assignments.

Examples of Work

  • Send an email to all investigators, the Executive Director, and the Chair of the Commission at least two weeks in advance of the Commission meeting asking for any agenda items.

  • Serve as the Clerk during the monthly Commission Meetings.

  • Prepare the meeting agenda, minutes, and agenda items, including draft orders to the Commissioners, Commission Counsel, and the Executive Director.

  • Prepare individual files for all items before the Commission - subpoenas, orders - to be reviewed and signed by the Chair.

  • Prepare room set up and conduct all pre-commission meeting coordination (when meeting in person).

  • Conduct commission meeting follow-up.

  • Use technology such as Zoom and other forms of audio recording.

  • Complete any action items, such as distributing signed commission orders, subpoenas, etc.

  • Provide administrative support for the Commission's Public Hearings under the direction of the Executive Director.

  • Maintain original copies of all documents received or created.

  • Post Public Hearing Coordination.

  • Ensure compliance with the Open Meetings Act.

  • Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties assigned which may not be specifically listed in position description but are within the general category and responsibility level typically associated with employee's class of work.

  • Provide ongoing assistance to the Office Manager for general office support.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have experience in the Administrative Aide II level equal to the length of the probationary period; or Associate's degree in Business Administration or Secretarial Science and

  • One (1) year of secretarial/administrative experience which involved working with the public, office management and operational details.

Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience will also be accepted. Applicant must be proficient in typing where required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration.

  • Working knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and methods and their efficient application to administrative details.

Conditions of Employment: Upon selection, the candidate must:

  • Applicants who meet minimum qualifications must pass an administered Administrative Aide exam. Applicants who have previously taken the exam on or after 2/1/2023, and passed, will not be required to re-test; instead, previously test scores will be used to receive the passing disposition.

  • Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.

  • Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties.

  • May be required to successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings, where applicable.

  • Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
