Position Overview

Design simple jigs, dies, and fixtures. Perform machining of components as directed to improve understanding of tool making. Participate in Kaizen activities (SMED planned) to improve lean Mfg. skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

Studies specifications, engineering, blueprints and shop data and confers with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems.

Applies algebraic and geometric formulas and standard tool engineering data to develop tool configuration.

Prepares preliminary sketches and detail CAD drawings.

Analytical Synthesizes complex or diverse information; collects and researches data; uses intuition and experience to complement data; designs work flow and procedures.

Design Generates creative solutions; translates concepts and information into images; uses feedback to modify designs; applies design principles; demonstrates attention to detail.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Actively pursuing a B.S. in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and shop floor staff.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database software; PRO #; Auto Cad Design software; internet software; MFG PRO Manufacturing software; spreadsheet software and word processing software.
