The Soldiers' Home in Holyoke is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual to join our team. This is a full-time position working in our Treasurer's Office. The ideal candidate provides clerical and administrative support through data entry and customer service to our staff, Veterans and Veterans' families.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all-inclusive)
Receives and disburses funds for the Veteran population to ensure safekeeping of their money. Follows proper procedures for recording receipts and disbursements to ensure veteran accounts are correct
Records receipt and disbursement of funds into the cashbook and into the computerized accounting system on a daily basis so that each veteran has an up to date account balance. Ensures that veteran accounts are not overdrawn. Compares entries made in the cashbook to entries made into the computerized system to ensure that the Veteran account is accurate and has been posted correctly.
Processes outgoing mail for the institution by weighing and affixing proper postage.
Assist with end of month bill mailings and other mailings as needed
Performs bank runs
Sells lunch tickets to employees.
Provides lunch tickets to Volunteers per policy and maintains log
Sorts and distributes employee pay stubs on a bi-weekly basis.
Serves as relief switchboard operator.
Performs other administrative duties as assigned.

The Soldiers' Home in Holyoke is a state-funded, fully accredited health care facility that offers veterans quality health care, including full-time residential accommodations, an on-site dental clinic, a multi-service outpatient department and provides educational and social services for Veterans in the Commonwealth. Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in office work, or (B) an equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below:
I. A diploma as evidence of graduation from the commercial or business course of a recognized high school or vocational/technical high school may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience. *
II. A diploma as evidence of graduation from a course other than the commercial or business course of a recognized high school or vocational/technical high school or possession of a Massachusetts high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for a maximum of eight months of the required experience. *
III. A diploma for completion of a one year, full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized, non-degree granting business or secretarial school above the high school level may be substituted for a maximum or one year of the required experience. *
IV. A diploma for completion of a two-year, full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized, non-degree granting business or secretarial school above the high school level may be substituted for the required experience.*
