Clerk I/CLOTHING CLERK: Under the supervision of the Home Supervisor, the Clothing Clerk is responsible for sorting, stocking, purchasing, labeling, sewing and delivering clothing items.

The Clothing Clerk solicits consumer preferences related to clothing; identifies clothing sizes; assists consumers with clothing purchases in the community; assists with laundry (washing, drying, folding and ironing) as needed; assists with maintaining neat and clean closets; ensures clean, well maintained clothing is available at the Developmental Center; assists with decorating the home; and assists the Home Supervisor with other duties as time allows. The Clothing Clerk must have the skills to: Do basic sewing and mending.

Use a sewing machine and needle and thread. Read, write and do arithmetic. Organize and schedule self in order to fulfill the many aspects of this position. Work harmoniously and productively with co-workers, as well as with people with developmental disabilities.

Essential Job Functions:

Ensures consumers have stylish, well maintained clothing in order for them to maintain an appearance comparable to society in general. Consults with consumers and assigned group leaders to determine consumer clothing needs and preferences as evidenced by no documented incidents of failure to do so.

Maintains accurate clothing measurements for each consumer on the assigned home as evidenced by consumers wearing well fitting clothing. Prepares appropriate paperwork for the purchase of needed items as evidenced by no documented incidents of failure to do so. Assists consumer and group leader to purchase well fitting, stylish clothing as evidenced by no documented incidents of failure to do so.

Monitors all donated clothing, assisting consumers and group leaders to select attractive clothing the person would enjoy wearing as evidenced by no documented incidents of failure to do so.

Ensures each item of personal clothing is appropriately marked with the consumer's name and home as evidenced by no documented incidents of failure to do so.

Ensures all in season clothing is accessible to the consumer unless other provisions have been made through the IDT and HRC as evidenced by no documented incidents of failure to do so.

Ensures clean, well maintained clothing is available for each consumer at the Developmental Center as evidenced by no documented incidents of failure to do so.

Maintains a written clothing inventory for each consumer on assigned home as evidenced by the presence of a current clothing inventory for each person. Follows the rules and standards pertaining to trust fund purchases, B-17 purchases, and any other business office transactions as evidenced by no documented incidents of failure to do so.

Processes discharged or deceased consumer's belongings to ensure the person and/or his/her family's wishes are carried out. Gathers/packs all the belongings of consumers in a timely fashion and dispenses as the person and/or family wishes as evidenced by no documented incidents of failure to do so. Assists in maintaining an attractive environment in order to promote a home like atmosphere.

Assists consumers and group leaders to maintain clean, neat clothing wardrobes and lockers as evidenced by observation and no documented incidents of failure to do so. Keeps the clothing room clean and well organized as evidenced by observation and no documented incidents of failure to do so. Assists with home decorations by completing B-17s, shopping and putting up decorations within the home as evidenced by observation and no documented incidents of failure to do so.

Purchases, puts up and maintains attractive curtains in the consumer living areas as evidenced by observation and no documented incidents of failure to do so. "Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location." Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Must demonstrate the ability to maintain clothing inventory for individuals served. Must demonstrate ability to maintain clothing, i.e., repair/replace/discard consumer clothing as needed.

Must demonstrate the use of a needle and thread. Must demonstrate knowledge of the proper use of a sewing machine, iron, labeling/marking machine, washer and dryer. Must demonstrate basic computer skills.

Must demonstrate reliability in the use, protection and maintenance of procurement cards, and consumer monies. Must have the ability to lift a minimum of 60 pounds.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:

TX Drivers License is required. Initial Selection Criteria:

Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be eligible for the position:

Experience (1) repairing/replacing/discarding/maintaining clothing inventory; or (2) experience using a needle and thread, sewing machine, and iron; or (3) experience using a labeling/marking machine, washer and dryer.

High School diploma or GED.

Additional Information:

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/ Entities.

Males between the ages of 18 - 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.

All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
