Position Description

The Clerk performs clerical and receptionist duties that include answering incoming calls, filing, and distributing mail for the Probate Department of the Harris County Clerk's Office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Answers all incoming calls and routes to appropriate section.

  • Timestamps, labels and distributes incoming mail.

  • Files all correspondence.

  • Mails return correspondence and receipts.

  • Keeps all forms stocked in bins for customers in public area.

  • Completes all searches, prints cash receipts and prepares return labels if required.

  • Keeps log up to date with certified mail, UPS and Fed Ex deliveries

  • Mails forms requested by phone.

  • Prints daily report and verifies new estate information in our case management system.

  • Verifies new cases in our case management system.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

All applicants must register and take the HRRM Clerical Skills Test and score a minimum of 80% with a typing speed of 35 W.P.M. and 80% accuracy.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited educational institution.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of paid receptionist or clerical work experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic proficiency skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications.

  • Must be detail-oriented.

  • Must have good prioritization and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work as a team player and work well with others.

  • Ability to type 35 words per minute with 80% accuracy and 80% accuracy on the clerical skills test.

  • Ability to handle multiple phone lines and multi-task.

  • Ability to display compassion and understanding.

  • Ability to work overtime without prior notification and work flexible hours as required.

Salary:

  • $16.50 Hourly

  • This position does not include paid parking; a subsidized Harris County Metro card is available after employees receive their first paycheck.

Employment is contingent upon passing a background check and drug screen.
