THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Clerical Assistant 3, you will be the initial point of contact for the department, serving as the primary receptionist. Work includes answering and referring calls for public inquiries pertaining to L&I and other commonwealth agencies, federal agencies, municipalities, the private sector, and organizations throughout the state and country. You will be responsible for evaluating these inquires and answering general questions related to unemployment compensation, employer taxes, labor standards, and other programs within the department. You will also have the opportunity to provide training to clerical staff from various bureaus on utilization of the phone system and knowledge of all program areas to act as backup when the need arises.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Clerical Assistant 2 (commonwealth title); or
  • One year of moderately complex clerical experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be willing and able to work in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
  • You must possess at least one year of experience answering and assisting with incoming phone calls.
  • You must possess at least one year of experience providing clerical/administrative support.
  • You must have working experience with Microsoft Office Suite, such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • You must demonstrate ability to adhere to the values and ethics of the Department of Labor and Industry.
  • You must demonstrate ability to work with professionalism, discretion, and good work ethic.
  • You must have solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • You must show initiative and problem solving skills.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Ability to use a personal computer and navigate through common software programs, applications, and systems
