Indiana Department of Revenue

The Indiana Department of Revenue is responsible for providing service to Indiana citizens regarding state tax matters. Additionally, the department administers state tax laws, develops regulations and makes decisions about tax policy.

Clerical Assistant

The Clerical Assistant receives all Department of Revenue mail and sorts for distribution to other processing sections. The Clerical Assistant is point person to sign for deliveries and deliver and/or pick-up inter-office mail. They are responsible for filing, refiles, and organization of the warehouse.

A day in the life

  • Sort incoming mail by P.O. Box Determine if form type gets cut, open mail on Omation.

  • Take completed trays to the Doc Prep section.

  • Sort incoming inter-office mail, deliver inter-office mail, pick up inter-office mail, sign for deliveries, file documents in warehouse, pull requests, and refile, run the ACE

  • One (1) year clerical or related experience or accredited college training in a related field.

Reception and Records Clerk This position serves as a Receptions/Records Clerk within the Appeals division of the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, Indianapolis Central Office. This position receives visitors and telephone calls and responds to inquiries on a variety of matters, such as the status of pending cases, administrative and court rules, appeal procedures as well as general UI administrative rules and procedures. This position is also responsible for the management of cases files that are maintained in the appeals department. A day in the life: * Answer phone calls and receive visitors; * Routinely handle sensitive and confidential information and must be able to maintain confidentiality; * Fulfill hearing recording requests; * Assemble new case files, research missing files and/or documents, and manage record retention; * Perform interdepartmental file and mail delivery; * Other duties as assigned What we're looking for: One (1) year clerical or related experience or accredited college training in a related field. * One (1) year clerical or related experience or accredited college training in a related field. * Knowledge of office organization, workflow, and procedures; * Ability to abstract significant facts from data. Correspondence received from interested parties may be vague and difficult to interpret; * Skilled typing ability and knowledge of personal computer hardware and software; * Ability to coordinate work to meet timeliness requirements; * Ability to follow complex instructions; * Ability to maintain composure during stressful situations; * Verbal and written communication competency sufficient to explain complex rules, regulations, and procedures; * Ability to understand and apply references such as dictionaries, English usage manuals, work instructions, procedure manuals, and computer guides; * Skill in communicating with angry, confused or hostile individuals; * Ability to use diplomacy and discretion in giving out information and in referring and directing callers and visitors; * Ability to interpret instructions and guidelines in order to make decisions and take required action; * Skill in mathematics sufficient to calculate remaining weeks of benefits; * Must be able to lift and carry boxes up to 50lbs; * General knowledge of agency policies and procedures for unemployment insurance eligibility, claim determinations and UI tax is a plus; * Knowledge of administrative hearing rules and procedures for Indiana Unemployment Insurance is a plus.
