Job Description:
Summary: Under the direction of the Special Education Director, the special education teacher provides special education instruction to students in accordance with the minutes of their IEPs. The special education teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in all activities during the center program. The person in this position is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities, such that the students benefit from the education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplemental aides, accommodations, and other needed supports.
Starting Job Salary: $50,000-$70,000 annually for full time employment of 40 hours a week.

Schedule: Full time hours in a year-round special education school setting. Teachers must be on site to plan and teach from 8:30am-3:30pm Mon-Fri. In addition, teachers will engage in 5 or more additional hours per week of planning and other tasks outside of classroom time. This time can be done on or off site. This is a position at a year round school with a 2 week break at the beginning and end of the summer along with winter and spring breaks of 1-2 weeks in length.

Applicants should have experience with:
Participating in clinical teams with other professionals.
Development and ongoing management of student IEPs and behavior plans.
Developing individualized and appropriate activities and instruction for the curriculum and IEP goals.
Collecting, graphing, analyzing, displaying, and discussing data-based progress is a must.
Instructing students in a special education setting.
Education and/or Experience:
Missouri special education certification cross-categorical K-12 required.
Minimum of bachelor's degree (education degree preferred)
Instructional Skills:
Strong knowledge of the principles and practice of Applied Behavior Analysis is preferred.
Strong knowledge of the behavioral, cognitive, educational, vocational and social challenges encountered by persons with emotional and developmental disabilities.
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks/goals for self and others.
Effective negotiation and problem solving skills.
Ability to work effectively with various technology including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, tablet apps.
Extensive experience in working with students with emotional and/or developmental disabilities
Strong leadership skills
Patience
Ability to interact well with children, adolescents, and adults
Ability to work cooperatively as a therapy team member
Effective with shifting roles, responsibilities, and expectations in a changing environment.
Effective skills in communicating student and instructional expectations to others.
