MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
BS in Education/Valid DESE Certification in Special Education Mild/Mod Cross Categorical required
DESE Certification in Elementary 1-6 preferred
Elementary Special Education experience preferred
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide instruction to students according to their Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP)
Use instructional strategies to teach functional life skills
Create and implement a classroom and/or individual disciplinary plan or behavior intervention plan
Create lesson plans and activities to implement and supplement instruction according to each student's needs
Oversee and schedule paraprofessionals and personal assistants
Participate in building, grade level and subject area committees
Participate in professional development activities
Maintain accurate and compliant student records including IEPs, attendance, grades, and discipline
Take personal responsibility for IEP compliance including Notification of Meetings, Timeline Waivers, Parental Safeguards, and accurate and timely completion of IEPs
Complete and submit IEPs, forms, and required reports within expected timeframes
Communicate regularly with parents regarding progress towards goals and other educational successes or concerns
Participate as a member of an IEP team, 504 team, or other student assistance teams as requested
Implement IEPs and individual health plans as written
Report suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination, and harassment as directed by Board policy
Prepare lesson plans for use by a substitute teacher
Other duties as may be assigned
