Essential Skills, Knowledge Performance Abilities
Watertown Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Primary School Special Education Teacher specializing in social and emotional learning (SEL). The ideal candidate will develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) focusing on the social and emotional development of students with special needs. This role requires a deep understanding of SEL principles, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and staff.
Program Development and Implementation
Develop and implement IEPs focusing on social and emotional learning for students with special needs.
Design and deliver SEL curriculum tailored to each student.
Utilize evidence-based practices to support students' social and emotional development.
Implement Behavioral Intervention Plans with fairness and fidelity.
Instruction and Support
Provide direct instruction and support to students in individual and group settings.
Use various teaching methods and materials to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
Monitor and assess students' progress, adjusting instruction as needed.
Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with general education teachers, service providers, and other staff to integrate SEL strategies across the curriculum.
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and strategies for support at home.
Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other relevant meetings.
Professional Development
Stay current with best practices in special education and social and emotional learning.
Attend professional development workshops and training sessions as required.
Share knowledge and strategies with colleagues to promote a school-wide culture of SEL.
Additional Duties
This position reports to the Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services
Perform all other duties that may be assigned by the Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services and/or the Building Administrator
Terms of Employment
188 Days
Salary commensurate with the working agreement between the Watertown Board of Education and Watertown Education Association
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday
