Classroom Teacher / Social Studies

Job Description:

Reports To: Building Principal

Education and Experience:

• Minimum of Bachelor's degree, required

• Full Certification in Social Studies/Social Sciences, grades 7-8, required

• Middle level expertise of teaming, collaboration, teaching to the young teenage brain to reach learning potential.

• Excels in building relationships with young teenagers.

Essential Job Functions:

• Teaches social studies and incorporates language skills, writing skills and critical learning procedures

• Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified in state laws, regulations and District policies

• Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives

• Plans a program of study in the area of social studies that meets the individual needs, interests, ability, and maturity of the students

• Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides frequent progress communications and grade reports as required

• Works closely with special needs staff for the success of the students

• Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required, requested to do so under reasonable terms, and as deemed appropriate for the success of the students

• Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and the behavioral progress of all assigned students

• Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner

• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations

• Attends and participates in faculty meetings, in-service activities, workshops, coursework, seminars, and other activities that promote professional growth and lifelong learning for the teacher

• Cooperates and collaborates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives,assessments, curriculum, and methods

• Other duties, as assigned
