Job Description:
Reports To: Building Principal
Education and Experience:
Minimum of Bachelor's degree, required
Full Certification in Social Studies/Social Sciences, grades 7-8, required
Middle level expertise of teaming, collaboration, teaching to the young teenage brain to reach learning potential.
Excels in building relationships with young teenagers.
Essential Job Functions:
Teaches social studies and incorporates language skills, writing skills and critical learning procedures
Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified in state laws, regulations and District policies
Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
Plans a program of study in the area of social studies that meets the individual needs, interests, ability, and maturity of the students
Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides frequent progress communications and grade reports as required
Works closely with special needs staff for the success of the students
Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required, requested to do so under reasonable terms, and as deemed appropriate for the success of the students
Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and the behavioral progress of all assigned students
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
Attends and participates in faculty meetings, in-service activities, workshops, coursework, seminars, and other activities that promote professional growth and lifelong learning for the teacher
Cooperates and collaborates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives,assessments, curriculum, and methods
Other duties, as assigned
