Job Summary:

The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in social studies instruction at the middle school level. They are conversant in current pedagogy that inspires and encourages students to read, write and speak with skill and confidence.

The candidate will join a collaborative and energized middle school team that works together to ensure student achievement and social-emotional well-being. Teachers at the Lee H. Kellogg School recognize students' skills and interests and design instruction that engages all learners.

They consistently monitor student learning and data and adjust instruction accordingly. The ideal candidate effectively communicates with students, parents, and colleagues and develops partnerships that support student learning.

The Lee H. Kellogg School is a K-8 elementary school in rural Northwest Connecticut, part of the Region One School District.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Set goals for student achievement supported by a viable curriculum and the building school improvement plan.

Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure student success.

Serve as an advocate for students' diverse needs.

Serve as a role model through actions and behaviors.

Plan daily instructional activities for all students based on individual students and their needs.

Select and use various instructional materials to stimulate learning and meet the needs of all students.

Demonstrate knowledge of the subject matter and the Connecticut Core Standards.

Develop and administer formative and summative tests, use multiple tools to assess student learning on an ongoing basis, and alter instruction to meet the group and individual needs based on data collected.

Collaborate with fellow teachers to create a data-driven, learner-centered, friendly, and safe environment.

Maintain order within the classroom and school with proactive classroom management and a well-organized, rigorous learning environment.

Monitor students in various educational environments to provide a safe and positive learning environment.

Maintain professionalism when interacting with students, parents, community, community agencies, and colleagues.

Maintain accurate student performance and attendance records regularly and consistently, and communicate effectively with students and their parents.

Stays abreast of current educational trends and best practices related to classroom instruction and effective schools.

Incorporate and model appropriate use of technology to support instruction and student learning.

Develop professional relationships with other agencies and programs.

Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.

Communicate with all stakeholders.

Education/Qualifications:

CT Certification in History & Social Studies 4-8 (#226) and History & Social Studies 7-12 (#026)

Submit to background checks through Federal/State fingerprinting, DCF, and previous employers per State of CT Statutes
