POSITION: Grade 6 Science Teacher
LOCATION: Woodbury Middle School
START DATE: August 21 & 22, 2024 (New Faculty Orientation)
August 26, 2024 (First Day for All Teachers)
DEADLINE: July 8, 2024
PRIMARY FUNCTION: A Woodbury Middle School science teacher implements the comprehensive science curriculum. Woodbury Middle School teachers are leaders in their field and specialize in meeting students' needs in and across a variety of State and National Standards. WMS science teachers work with their instructional leader to continually develop cutting-edge curricula and lessons.
EDUCATION TRAINING/REQUIREMENTS: State of Connecticut Certification, 305 (Elementary 1-6), 034 (General Science) required or any related Middle School Science Certification (i.e. 234 General Science, Middle School, 4-8,).
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Candidate preferably has a background in the following areas:
Laboratory Experience
Curricular Writing
Lesson Planning
NGSS Preparation
REPORTS TO: Instructional Leader/Principal
WORK YEAR: By Contract
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instruct in accordance with the Region 14 teacher job description
Develop and deliver a comprehensive science curriculum
Consult and collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents in understanding and meeting the needs of students in the school setting
Confer with families and professionals in the school and community for the best interests of the students
Plan, evaluate, and revise the science courses and programs
Pursue continuous professional growth to stay abreast of changes in the field
Perform additional duties, where appropriate, which are assigned within the scope of employment and certification
Consult and collaborate with stakeholders and develop and support a safe school climate
Utilize differentiated instructional strategies to teach science
Collaborate with teaching colleagues on grade level teams and subject area teams
Demonstrate willingness to seek and act on feedback from instructional leaders, colleagues, and administrators
Establish and maintain frequent communication with parents
Evaluate student needs based on data and employ a variety of instructional strategies to meet these needs
Collaborate with support staff and interventionists to develop and evaluate progress towards meeting measurable goals and objectives
Participate in professional learning opportunities provided by the district and incorporate new learning into instructional practices
