Classroom Teacher / Physical Education

Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Provides effective health and physical education instruction to middle school students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plans and implements daily instruction in health and physical education to students.

• Develops and administers health, physical education, and wellness classes consistent with school district curriculum, goals and objectives

• Creates a strong, positive environment for student learning

• Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in physical educational, health, and wellness activities and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs

• Ensures parents/guardians are accurately informed of student growth and development

• Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws

• Inspects equipment and field areas used to ensure they are in good and safe working order

• Adheres to rules, regulations and by-laws of the Board of Education

• Participates in professional learning and professional growth activities, including faculty committee and system-wide committee assignments

• Participates in assignments and activities to promote better school-community relations (parent conferences, activities, etc.)

• Performs other specific duties as assigned by the building administrator

QUALIFICATIONS:

Appropriate Connecticut teaching certification (043 Health, PreK-12 and 044 Physical Education, PreK-12). Experience with middle school-age students; knowledge of best practices in developing physical education, health and wellness curriculum and the ability to modify the curriculum to meet the needs of all learners. Must be a flexible collaborator.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Position to start at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year. Salary and benefits in accordance with the negotiated agreement between the Berlin Education Association and the Berlin Board of Education, BA Step 1 $51,651.00 - Ph.D. Max $108,038.00.
