POSITION: Physical Education/Health Teacher
LOCATION: Nonnewaug High School
START DATE: August 21 & 22, 2024 (New Faculty Orientation)
August 26, 2024 (First Day for All Teachers)

PRIMARY FUNCTION: A Nonnewaug High School physical education/health teacher implements a comprehensive wellness and physical education curriculum from grades 9-12. Nonnewaug High School physical education/health teachers are leaders in their field and specialize in meeting students' needs in and across a variety of State and National Standards. Teachers focus on developing skills for students to embrace lifelong wellness practices.
EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: State of Connecticut Certification
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Candidate preferably has a background in the following areas:
Curriculum Development and Implementation
Lesson planning
Connecticut Physical Fitness Assessment Preparation
Experience in Block Scheduling and Instruction
Data analysis and utilization
REPORTS TO: Instructional Leader/Assistant Principal/Principal
WORK YEAR: By Contract
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instruct in accordance with the Region 14 teacher job description
Develop and deliver a comprehensive PE/Health curriculum
Consult and collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents in understanding and meeting the needs of students in the school setting
Confer with families and professionals in the school and community for the best interests of the students
Plan, evaluate, and revise the PE/Health courses and programs
Pursue continuous professional growth to stay abreast of changes in the field
Perform additional duties, where appropriate, which are assigned within the scope of employment and certification
Consult and collaborate with stakeholders and develop and support a safe school climate
Utilize differentiated instructional strategies to teach PE/Health/Wellness
Collaborate with teaching colleagues on grade level teams and subject area teams
Demonstrate willingness to seek and act on feedback from other instructional leaders, colleagues, and administrators
Establish and maintain frequent communication with parents
Evaluate student needs based on data and employ a variety of instructional strategies to meet these needs
Collaborate with support staff and interventionists to develop and evaluate progress towards meeting measurable goals and objectives
Participate in professional learning opportunities provided by the district and incorporate new learning into instructional practices
