Assistant Band Director

CERTIFIED POSITION - Assistant Band Director/Teacher

  • 2024-2025 Contract Dates: In accordance with the school calendar

  • Base Teacher's Salary range of $42,800 - $76,600 & Full benefits package

  • Missouri State Teacher Certification

  • Primary Location: Jr. High School

  • This position is split between the High School, Jr. High & Intermediate buildings, overseeing the Jr. High portion of the program including being the lead teacher for 7th & 8th grade band.

  • This position team teaches with the other two band directors at all three locations.

  • Preference given to applicants who are brass specialists.

  • Candidates will be expected to teach one section of guitar per semester.

  • Prefer candidates who are well-versed in audio/visual technology, specifically that which is required to run a professional sound board and light board.

  • Start date: 2024-2025 school year

POSITION SUMMARY

To provide instruction, guided practice, assessments, remediation, and enrichment through a variety of learning opportunities and ensure a positive, successful educational experience for students. Ensures that all students acquire the grade level expectation skills set forth by Missouri Department of Education and Hillsboro R-3 curriculum.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Develops a program of study that meets individual needs, interests and abilities of students.

  • Instructs students by lecturing, demonstrating and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations.

  • Prepares course objectives and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.

  • Assigns lessons, corrects homework, and provides students with positive feedback and constructive criticism on assignments.

  • Administers tests to evaluate student's progress, records results, and issues reports or conducts meetings to inform parents of progress.

  • Establishes and enforces rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.

  • Keeps attendance records.

  • Maintains discipline in the classroom.

  • Recognizes and refers students encountering medical, physical and/or psychological problems seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.

  • Establishes and maintains appropriate working relationships by actively communicating with parents.

MARGINAL DUTIES

  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, mentor programs and teacher training workshops.

  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer (s).

  • Performs related duties such as sponsoring one or more co-curricular activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting course of study, and counseling student in adjustment and academic problems.

  • Contributes to the decisions made by the District and building regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personnel well-being.

  • Maintains a physically and aesthetically attractive classroom setting and exercises proper care of school equipment.

  • Shares responsibility for supervision of students in all areas of the schools through activities such as monitoring student activity between classes.

  • Performs additional tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises 2 or more employees (Teacher's Aide and Volunteers as assigned).

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from an accredited four-year College or University

  • Missouri State Teaching Certificate

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee is frequently required to feel, grasp, push, reach with hands/arms, stoop, kneel, crawl, perform repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement, and move up or down from/to sitting position.
