Position Function:

The Classroom Teacher provides support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; develop, monitor, and report progress on educational goals/objectives developed in an individualized Education Program; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from student's parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Pennsylvania teaching certification in appropriate field.

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Related teaching experience preferred.

  • Commitment to and experience working with underserved communities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Valid driver's license from the state in which you reside in and proof of car insurance.

  • Outstanding personal/interpersonal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to keep concise records.

  • Sensitivity to the developmental stages and wellbeing of children

  • Willingness to be flexible in terms of teaching assignment within the education program.

Essential Job Functions:

Major highlights of the position requirements are noted below. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as required.

  • Responsible for timely, periodic submission of all required clearances and physicals.

  • Administer and develop subject specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.

  • Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement, development and monitoring of individualized Education Program and/or reinforce classroom goals in the home environment.

  • Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.

  • Collaborate with instructional team members, other personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.

  • Demonstrate and differentiate methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program (regular education/special education).

  • Instruct students for the purpose of improving their success in academics through a defined course of study.

  • Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.

  • Monitor students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.

  • Commit to a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of continuous improvement.

  • Prepare a variety of written materials (e.g., grades, lesson plans following scope and sequence, correspondence with parents and students, examinations and quizzes, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.

  • Report incidents (e.g. fights suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, harassment, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive and safe learning environment and adhering to state law.

  • Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.

  • Impeccable inter/intrapersonal skill base with colleagues/children.

  • Collaborate with team members to discuss student work, share best practices, plan event for joy and humor, and ensure student mastery of standards.

Training Requirements:

  • All new hires are required to go through mandated orientation.

  • Comply with Agency Annual Training requirements.

  • Must pass and complete CPR and First Aid Training.

  • Must pass and complete Safe and Positive training.

  • Maintain active PDE certification and act 48-hour requirements.

Work Environment and Primary Work Locations:

  • Classroom environment and setting.

  • Flourtown Campus Location, Flourtown, PA

Physical Considerations:

  • Moderate physical exertion required.

  • Ability to participate in activities with youth.

  • Ability to maintain composure in crises situations with youth and restrain youth physically and in accordance with accepted agency guidelines.

  • Ability to implement Safe and Positive training as required.
