Position: 1.0 English Language Arts Teacher, 8th Grade
Location: Har-Bur Middle School
Reports to: Building Principal
Certification: CT Endorsement 015 (7-12) Required
Starting Date: Commencement of the 2024-2025 School Year
Har-Bur Middle School is looking for a dynamic English Language Arts teacher to join a team of driven and innovative educators. Har-Bur Middle School believes in fostering student growth through a model of high-quality learning. We are looking for a candidate who will promote literacy through active engagement, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, relevance, and student agency. We value educators who embrace a seminar/workshop model of teaching in the classroom. An ideal English Language Arts teacher at Har-Bur Middles school is someone who brings a balanced literacy approach to their teaching, reflects on their own practice using data to inform decision making, and actively seeks out colleagues and other resources to improve student outcomes. Qualifications:
Strong understanding of language arts concepts, literature, grammar, and writing.
Familiarity with the workshop model and its components.
The use of mentor texts
Small group instruction
Conferring with students
Work with vocabulary and morphology
Ability to apply the principles of Universal Design for Learning: Engagement, Representation, and Action/Expression
Experience designing engaging lessons that promote critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, student agency, and relevance.
Skill in using data to adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs.
Experience using restorative practices to maintain an organized and productive learning environment for all students.
Excellent communication skills to engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
Ability to collaborate with other teachers and integrate interdisciplinary approaches.
Knowledge of formative and summative assessment methods.
Ability to provide constructive feedback to students on their writing and reading skills.
