POSITION: HES Art Teacher (0.8) FTE & WHS (0.2) FTE
Qualifications Required:
Holds or is eligible for the Connecticut State Certification as an Art Teacher (PreK-12)
Possesses a degree in education from an accredited college or university
Possesses extensive knowledge of needs, behavior and growth patterns of children ages 5-10
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate
Reports to: Elementary School Principal

Dedication to providing art instruction which is dynamic, engaging, and age appropriate for grades K-2
Fostering creativity and love of the arts within a supportive and inclusive environment
To develop in each pupil an interest and ability for expressing himself/herself creatively in visual terms
To develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations through both creating and responding
To discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of art
Performance Responsibilities:
Develops and implements curriculum that is aligned with CT and National Core Arts Standards and incorporates a variety of art mediums and techniques.
Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, using standard and teacher-prepared instructional aids
Creates a positive and stimulating classroom environment that encourages student participation and creativity
Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests
Assesses and evaluates student knowledge and growth through assignments, projects, participation, and prepares progress reports.
Communicates regularly with parents/guardians regarding student success as well as any classroom concerns.
Manage classroom behavior in a manner that creates a safe and respectful learning environment.
Maintains and organize art supplies, ensuring materials are available and in good condition.
Participates in school events, parent-teacher conferences, and professional learning opportunities.
Plan for and facilitates the annual Art Show in the Spring for the school and community.
Maintains professional competence through a variety of activities including Inservice education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities
Participates in curriculum and other development programs within the elementary school or on a district level
Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities of a certified professional as the principal may assign from time to time
