NOTICE OF VACANCY

POSITION: Agricultural Science Teacher

LOCATION: Southington High School

SALARY: BA, Step 3 ~ $52,000 - 6th Year +30, maximum ~ $105,126

Work Year: 220 to 225 days as designated by administrator July 1 through June 30, to be compensated at per diem rate for the additional days beyond the teacher work year.

QUALIFICATIONS:

CT Certification required

(040) Agriculture, Grades Pre-K - 12

(041) Vocational Agriculture, 7-12

Applicants Should:

  • Have experience with and a passion for animal science, primarily livestock (cows, horses, sheep, goats, llamas, etc.) and be prepared to conduct hands-on learning activities regarding such

  • Be certified to teach Agriculture or Vocational Agriculture 040 or 041 or be able to become certified to teach such

  • Be familiar with the Future Farmers of America (FFA) Organization and know how important it is to an Agriscience Program

  • Have the ability to plan and develop curriculum materials based on needs of students and our local agricultural community, and possess satisfactory skills in instructional methods

  • Be able to work as a team with other instructors in the Agriscience and Technology Program

  • Have a love of, patience, and empathy to work with children

Upon hire, candidates will be expected to:

  • Secure CDL-B license for passenger endorsement in order to drive students to proposed new facility down the street, for FFA activities, and in-class/full day field trips (Program will assist with driver training/release time)

  • Attain full licensure to be a certified teacher, or attain such before August 1st 2024

  • Assume responsibilities with FFA as an Advisor, including student supervision beyond the school day during FFA related activities

  • Our program fulfills the state requirement of the Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) for Agriscience Programs, which is basically a work-study requirement. As such, the Instructor performs SAE visits to ensure students are completing this requirement to receive school credit. Therefore, you will be expected to perform on-site SAE visits and specific SAE responsibilities and evaluations throughout the year in an extended year contract

  • Become involved in Connecticut Association of Agricultural Educators (CAAE) Organization and assist with statewide FFA contests

  • Maintain large animal facilities and coordinate veterinary visits, records, etc.
