Bethel High School Senior Naval Science Instructor / Program Director
JOB GOAL: The NJROTC is a Leadership and Citizenship Development program designed to help all students succeed. The program leader will implement and administer a myriad of instructional approaches and resources to maximize student achievement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid and current Navy JROTC Instructor Certification.
Completed Navy National Agency Check and Background Investigation.
Retired Officer of the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, or U.S. Marine Corps.
Valid Connecticut Teaching Certification issued by the State Department of Education in the area of assignment.
Experience in the field as the Board of Education and administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: School Principal or Principal's designee and NJROTC Program Officials as assigned.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as the Officer in Charge of the NJROTC program to lead and administer in accordance with the guidance and directives as set forth by the Commander, Naval Service Training Command, the NJROTC Eastern Region Director, and the NJROTC Area One Manager in accordance with Commander, Naval Service Training Command Instruction M-5767.1
Develop, teach, and assess appropriate learning objectives daily for the subject(s) taught.
Maintain a physical, social, and emotional learning environment that inspires and motivates students, and supports character development.
Demonstrate effective classroom management strategies to maximize student engagement and productivity.
Comply with all of Bethel's professional expectations and regulations as set forth in the Teachers' Contract.
Participate in the life of the school, supporting programs or activities outside the classroom that further develop students' learning and social-emotional needs.
Complete all other duties as assigned by the principal conscientiously and professionally.
Additional Duties:
Work collaboratively with the program Naval Science Instructor who serves as the co-teacher, senior enlisted advisor, and program NCOIC in the absence of the SNSI.
Work collaboratively with the Bethel NJROTC Boosters and cadets parents to create experiential learning opportunities for cadets.
Administer and properly account for funding sources from the federal government, board of education, student activities accounts, booster club, and other sources.
Plan, administrate and execute all facets of NJROTC program training events including Basic Leadership Training, Marching Drill Competitions, Marksmanship Training, STEAM-oriented training, field trips, and orientation visits designed to create authentic, project-based and/or experiential learning opportunities for all cadets.
Work after hours, including after school, evening and weekend hours in support of cadet training and events.
As needed, plan, coordinate, administrate, and/or execute NJROTC and other cadet summer training programs and opportunities.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month position
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Bethel Teacher Evaluation Program and the provisions of the Board's Policy 4115.
