Job Description:
Ledyard Public Schools is seeking a Middle School Special Education Teacher beginning in the 2024-2025 school year to work with students in the Resource program. The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience working with a range of learning differences using strategies to support students within the general education setting. This is to fill an anticipated vacancy.
Qualifications:
Connecticut Special Education Certification required (165, 065 or 265)
Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with administrators, teachers and paraprofessionals
Strong case management skills
Experience with developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) designed to promote students' educational, physical, and/or social development
Effectively communicate with students and parents
Demonstrated ability to write accurate and thorough assessment reports, IEP's and progress reports
Experience with instructional strategies related to literacy and numeracy at the middle school level, as well as, modifying curriculum within the general education setting
Knowledge and skills related to progress monitoring student data as it relates to goals/objectives
Engage positively with teachers, students and families in the learning process
Collaborate with colleagues to improve learning for all students
Utilize data to make instructional decisions

Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust one's tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child.
Position can require physical interaction with students who have difficulty regulating emotions and controlling behavior.
Must occasionally lift, move, or support other staff with physically escorting students.
