Coachella Valley Unified School District covers more than 1,200 square miles of mostly rural desert terrain, serving the communities of Coachella, Thermal, Mecca, Oasis, Indio, and the Salton Sea. The district currently operates fourteen elementary schools, three middle schools, three comprehensive high schools, one continuation high school, and one adult school. Classified Substitute is an on-call as needed position. Substitutes may work in a variety of different positions depending on their work experience. Applicants for this posting may not start until the regular 24-25 school year begins in August.

  • Proof of COVID 19 Vaccination (Required upon hire or exemption may be requested to HR) * TB clearance

All District employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. Successful applicants for this position will be required to submit proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or request an exemption for qualifying medical or religious reasons during the onboarding process.

Applicants should not present proof of vaccination until directed to do so by the District's Human Resources Office.Classified Substitute is an on-call as needed position

Ideal applicants should have experience in the following areas:1. Responsible for the upkeep of landscaping including but not limited to lawns, shrubs, trees, planting areas,fields, and any other type of landscaping.2.

Mows, trims and edges lawns. Trims around benches, backstops, poles, fences, and all other items and areaswhen mowing equipment cannot reach.3. Prepares grounds for planting or reseeding including raking, weed removal, earthmoving, seeding,fertilizing, and any other type of ground preparation as required.4.

Plants and transplants trees, shrubs, and other decorative plants.5. Trims trees up six feet above the ground and trims shrubs, bushes and other decorative plants.6. Collects and removes all plant debris from site and disposes of debris in proper manner.7.

Cleans walkways, sidewalks, play courts, and other areas with blower.8. Operates various landscaping equipment.9. Operates motor vehicles/equipment including truck, tractor, pull trailer, or other vehicles.10. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions.

  • 2 professional letters of recommendation dated within the past 12 months. BLANK or INCOMPLETE applications will NOT be accepted.

    Please note that if your work/volunteer experience does not match any of the positions available to substitute, your application will not be considered. Applications will be reviewed on an as-needed basis. Selected candidates will be contacted to move forward to get fingerprinted for DOJ and FBI. Once candidates clear TB and fingerprints they will be invited to attend a mandatory orientation.
