Epidemiology has an outstanding opportunity for a (Working title: CLARiTI Data Manager, Payroll Title: Research Consultant E S 9).

The National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (NACC) serves as the data, communication, and collaboration coordinating center for the National Institute on Aging (NIA) Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers (ADRC) Program.

NACC is currently funded by a $36M grant from the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and is home to one of the largest (45,000+ participants), oldest, and most powerful Alzheimer's datasets. Our extensive database of rich, longitudinal, standardized clinical and neuropathological data was built in collaboration with more than 37 Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers (ADRCs) across the US over the past 20+ years.

NACC facilitates impactful research by serving as the data, communication, and collaboration coordinating center for the ADRC Program. NACC is in the process of driving major innovations that will modernize data collection, integration, storage, and sharing to transform and advance Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementia (ADRD) research. NACC is expanding its database to integrate electronic health records, Medicare claims, digital biomarkers, and digital neuropathology data, as well as additional genetic, biospecimen, and standard imaging (MRI and PET) metadata.

Additionally, NACC is developing a novel data search and visualization portal to make all these data streams readily searchable and accessible to the international research community. This work will open the door to new discoveries in Alzheimer's, improve our understanding of the disease, and enable the development of earlier disease detection technologies and more impactful therapeutics.

NACC is organized into five teams: 1) technology team, 2) project team, 3) research team, 4) grants and finance team and 5) communications team. NACC has been funded by NIA since 1999 and is based at the University of Washington, Department of Epidemiology.

Position Description:

The CLARiTI Data Project Manager provides senior level project management and support for the NACC SOW of a multi-site consortium called the ADRC Consortium for Clarity in ADRD Research Through Imaging (CLARiTI) which is focused on biomarkers of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders (ADRD). The 37 Alzheimer's ADRCs, which are spread across the US and are all centers of excellence in their own research, are now coming together as a consortium to focus on a set of joint objectives that, if successfully achieved, will propel the entire field. The consortium uses advanced brain imaging and fluid biomarkers to identify the multiple causes and their associated temporal characteristics that lead to eventual dementia.

This is especially pertinent in light of very new treatment possibilities for Alzheimer's disease (AD) since AD brain findings are often accompanied by non-AD pathology. It is this additional disease burden that our consortium will bring to light by developing tools for more accurate diagnosis and staging of disease(s).

The CLARiTI Data Manager works closely with various teams within NACC and external entities, including a multi-site team of investigators, the established national infrastructure, vendors, and industry partners. Reporting to the CLARiTI Program Manager, this position supports the operations and activities of the CLARiTI research program, ensuring timely completion of critical technical deliverables by NACC.

The CLARiTI Data Manager maintains a thorough understanding of NACC's operational processes and platforms, research database, software, repository structure, data management processes, and best practices to support a highly complex set of applications performing significant functions for ADRD researchers. This role must also be able to easily translate between business and technical domains.

The CLARiTI Data Manager is experienced with managing projects focused on technology, UX design and deployment and comfortable having conversations with stakeholders across the enterprise, including members of steering committees, executive leadership, project managers, researchers, developers, and operational staff. This position is a member of multidisciplinary project teams that may include external NACC partners and collaborators from national ADRC's, industry, and/or vendors.

This position is responsible for data management, effective usability and workflow testing, programming and production of data reports. This position requires an understanding of clinical trial design, data management and statistical analysis. This role requires an individual with experience in project management, and research milestones in a rapidly changing environment.

This role requires familiarity with clinical information systems, clinical research environments and a range of healthcare and clinical data sources. Experience with research using brain imaging with MRI and/or PET radiotracers administered under Investigational New Drug (IND) regulations is preferred. The CLARiTI Data Project Manager assists in the development, coordination and facilitation of trainings, workshops, communications, promotions, processes, and protocols that support the research program goals.

This position may have access to restricted or confidential information including patient information or other sensitive materials and information and must maintain strict confidentiality to perform job responsibilities and duties for authorized purposes. Excellent interpersonal communication, change management skills and professional judgement in working with multiple teams are important to success in this role.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Program Management and Technical Support (75%):

Develop software solutions with stakeholders across the enterprise, including steering committees, executive leadership, project managers, researchers, developers, and operational staff.

Advise on appropriate data collection tools; design and program data collection databases as needed.

Lead the development, implementation and documentation of data quality assurance procedures, including drafting code for data queries.

Advise PIs and study coordinators on case report form design, database choice and structure to ensure data collection tools are optimized for eventual analysis and storage.

Coordinate with the CLARiTI study team and/or research study site on design of data collection, quality control, data transfer, data management, and report generation.

Provide tools for researchers in navigating clinical information systems and accessing healthcare and clinical data sources, ensuring strict confidentiality.

Maintain a proactive and forward-thinking approach to data management and data quality that includes a global and local equity-focused lens that will help the NACC team fulfil its commitment to equitable access and use of the data generated from our research.

Maintain a thorough understanding of NACC's operational processes, research database, software infrastructure, and data management best practices.

Translate between technical and business domains to support the highly complex set of applications serving ADRD researchers.

Develop, coordinate, and facilitate technical solution trainings, workshops, communications initiatives, and protocols to support the CLARiTI research program goals.

Project Management (20%):

Provide senior-level project management oversight for the NACC Statement of Work (SOW) within the ADRC Consortium for Clarity in ADRD Research Through Imaging (CLARiTI).

Ensure alignment of project activities with consortium objectives to advance biomarker research for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders (ADRD).

Facilitate effective communication and coordination to support the mobilization of CLARiTI project operations and activities.

Lead the collaboration with investigators and the operations team to outline project objectives and oversee the generation of reports and queries to adhere to project deadlines.

Develop project plans and oversee day-to-day operational activities to ensure alignment with project goals.

Support the CLARiTI Program Manager in ensuring timely completion of critical deliverables related to the CLARiTI initiative.

Other Duties as Assigned (5%):

Lead the production of periodic study, external board, and/or annual grant reports with timeliness and accuracy.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Master's Degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Public Health or related field AND two to three years of relevant (data-specific) work experience in data management or clinical study coordination, with a focus on managing and manipulation of complex datasets in a healthcare, IT, or research university setting.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Possess a strong understanding of software and database tools to prioritize technical solutions, along with experience in usability and workflow testing.

Experience in developing, implementing, and managing electronic data collection tools and databases, including expertise in REDCap.

Proven ability to navigate complex environments and effectively manage diverse stakeholder needs.

Demonstrate understanding of and adherence to data privacy and security principles.

Experience overseeing the software development lifecycle, including solution analysis, architecture and design, systems integration, data conversion and migration, environment management, build processes, and deployment planning and execution.

Exhibit excellent professional judgment in managing change and collaborating with multiple teams in a fast-paced environment.

Exercise independent judgment in handling restricted or confidential information, adhering to organizational policies and regulations governing data access and usage.

Strong written communication, presentation, technical documentation, user liaison, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to communicate complex issues to technical and non-technical staff effectively.

Strong interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with a diverse range of personalities and building successful partnerships.

Comfortable working and organizing projects within MS Teams and SharePoint environments.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Public Health or related field.

Certified Clinical Data Manager (CCDM), a plus.

Experience working with medical neuroimaging, including radiotracers.

Experience working on research projects and with Human Subjects, including IND/IDE-regulated studies.
