The Personal Injury Protection Claim Supervisor oversees the operation and results of a team of 5-7 Claim Representatives devoted to the handling of Personal Injury Protection Claims. The Supervisor partners with other Personal Injury Protection Supervisors on the management of the entire office pending and provides technical training, file instruction and advice to claims associates.

The Personal Injury Protection Supervisor directs the team on their handling of Personal Injury Protection / Extended Medical Expense claims in accordance with the NJ State Department of Insurance Regulations, AICRA Guidelines, NY State Department of Insurance, CT State Department of Insurance and the impact they have on severity, expenses and other office objectives.

The Personal Injury Protection Supervisor is responsible for planning the activities and monitoring the results of the team's efforts to achieve assigned goals and objectives for production and quality. The Personal Injury Protection Supervisor will be responsible for identifying positive or negative trends, formulating solutions and working with other Supervisors and Directors to implement changes.

The ideal candidate for this position should have functional knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy with a thorough understanding of the Automobile Insurance Cost Reduction Act and regulatory requirements pertaining to Personal Injury Protection. In addition, the candidate should have Multi-state Personal Injury Protection / No Fault claims knowledge.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provides technical guidance and direction of Personal Injury Protection / No Fault claims.

  • Monitors the quality of work conducted by team members by completing Quality Reviews as outlined by Office Management.

  • Provides Office Management with a monthly analysis of quality trends and performances for individual team members.

  • Monitors authority levels and reserve accuracy.

  • Ensures Large Loss Reports are completed timely and properly.

  • Monitors workflow produced by team members and analyzes the results of the team.

  • Completes comprehensive monthly status reports.

  • Creates innovative action plans to achieve assigned objectives.

  • Develop, schedules and delivers training to improve the skills of team members.

  • Works in cooperation with other Claims Supervisors as necessary on projects or tasks.

  • Ensures work product of the team meets company programs and guidelines.

  • Researches State and Federal regulations, statutes, case law and policy language.

  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

  • Must be able to prioritize, organize and delegate effectively in a fast paced work environment.

  • Must have strong critical thinking skills, the ability to exercise independent judgment and the ability to problem solve effectively.

  • Must possess strong analytical skills.

  • Monitors attendance and oversight of Human Resource concerns of the team.

  • Evaluates performance of team members and conducts performance evaluations, mid-year reviews and objective setting.

  • Provides leadership through example.

  • Provides in-house and outside training.

  • Candidate must have the ability to resolve daily problems independently and according to company standards.

  • Communicates effectively with customers and management verbally and in writing.

  • Assists in company planning and budgeting.

  • Complies with the company's safety policies, practices, and procedures.

  • Interviews prospective PIP candidates.

  • Strong oral and written skills required.

Qualifications and Education

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) from a four year college or university with extensive PIP and multi-peril knowledge, preferably supervisory experience. (or)

  • Five to seven years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Candidate should have proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite products.

  • Familiarity with Tableau is a plus.

Additional Information

This position requires superior time management and organizational skills. The individual in this role should have solid verbal and written communication skills in addition to having superior interpersonal skills. This individual will be in charge of motivating their team in addition to ensuring healthy, positive morale through interaction with the group. Insurance designations or continuing education efforts to obtain the same are desirable but not required.
