This position will review and process legal invoices against billing standards and guidelines at a Senior Auditor level. The Sr. Auditor will be responsible for the review and auditing of larger invoices, specialized invoices, appealed deductions, and other matters with complexity. The Sr. Auditor will assist the manager with monitoring and prioritizing workloads.
The Claims Senior Legal Auditor / Legal Auditor is responsible for the review, legal analysis, and processing of legal vendor (law firm) invoices in accordance with Markel's Litigation Management Philosophy, Guidelines and Billing Standards. This position will review Claim file and legal documents in the course of legal invoice reviews, as well as collaborate with internal Claims associates and external stakeholders (insureds, law firms, brokers).
Review and analyze legal invoices using experience-gained knowledge of legal fee schedules and litigation management practices customary in the legal and insurance field
Maintain knowledge and familiarity with corporate claims quality standards inclusive of Markel's Litigation Management Philosophy, Guidelines and Billing Standards
Review claim file notes and documents for review and analysis of each invoice/legal matter
Review legal invoice line items for compliance with guidelines
Review and process legal invoice appeals and matters with complexity (senior level responsibility)
Engage in and maintain relationships with Markel Claims associates, law firms, insureds and other vendor partners
Educate claims associates and legal vendor partners regarding Markel's legal invoicing and litigation management standards
Recognize and track billing trends in order to share with team and management
Maintain and exceed expected processing time standards
Participate in various group vendor management meetings including team calibration meetings and other various trainings
Stay current with legal trends, regulations and court rulings pertaining to legal invoice reviews
Work collaboratively in a team environment to support the overall objectives and strategies of the Legal Audit and Claims Vendor Management teams
Education, Certification and Work Experience:
Bachelor's degree required
Juris Doctor and licensed attorney preferred
Experience as a practicing attorney, paralegal or legal auditor strongly preferred
Minimum 2+ years (5+ for senior level) of experience in compliance, legal auditing, litigation management, or legal industries
Insurance experience and insurance designations preferred
Professional liability and management liability experience a plus

Strong technical skills in utilizing e-billing software programs
Excellent written and oral communication skills

Business-minded; creative problem solving abilities; strong analytical and project management skills
Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
Professional skill level in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word)
Working knowledge of OnBase and Imageright document management systems
Comfortable working in a virtual team
Proven ability with high volume workloads in a fast-paced environment
