  • The position will support the E&S Specialty Claims department, with the selected individual having experience within the following areas: New York Labor Law, Personal and Advertising Injury, Assault and Battery, Errors and Omissions.

  • Internal Use Only: compensation grade is F4.

Investigates, evaluates, and resolves commercial, and professional lines claims and lawsuits of a severe and complex nature, or from a specialty line or program of significant value to the organization. File inventory typically includes litigation and complex coverages.

May assist in the coaching, training and mentoring of individual team members. May act as a subject matter expert in a particular line of business or risk. Has contact with external customers which involves maintaining, developing and influencing relationships with major customers or key business partners.

Job Description

Reporting Relationships: Reports to E&S/Specialty Claims Manager, E&S/Specialty Senior claims Manager.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Investigates, evaluates, and negotiates severe and complex claims and litigation to a successful resolution and in compliance with company quality standards. This may include such claims as arson, fraud, excess/umbrella, Directors and Officers, medical and legal malpractice, governmental liability, products and completed operations, premises bodily injury of a complex and severe nature.

  • Responsible for managing the work and performance of vendors to achieve successful resolution of claims.

  • Is responsible for meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.

  • May assist in the development, coaching, training and mentoring of individual team members. May act as a subject matter expert in a particular line of business or risk.

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining open and trusting working relationships with insureds in order to gather pertinent information.

  • Responsible for timely and appropriate evaluation of claims to identify and manage reserves in compliance with Company standards.

  • Maintains current knowledge of: all insurance lines; court decisions which may impact the claims function; current guidelines in the claims function; and policy changes and modifications. This may require attendance at various seminars and training sessions.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: High school diploma or GED Required.

College degree preferred. Additional education in a particular line of business may be required by the hiring business unit. Insurance coursework preferred.

Licenses/Registrations/Designations: Associates must obtain the required Federal and/or state licenses/registrations within the time period designated by the business unit.

Additional licenses/registrations may be required when new products and services are implemented. If an associate fails or is unable to obtain required licenses/registrations within the time period designated by the business unit, the associate will be ineligible to continue in the position.

Completion of insurance courses such as IIA, AEI, or CPCU preferred.

Experience: Five years claims handling experience or comparable work experience preferred Prior experience in directing defense counsel preferred.Prior experience with complex coverage issues and reinsurance reporting required.

Prior multi-jurisdictional, E&S or other specialty lines experience preferred. Specific experience in a particular line of business may be required by the hiring business unit.


Knowledge, Abilities, and

Skills:
Specific knowledge in a particular line of business and/or additional education may be required by the hiring business unit.

Familiarity with various types of insurance policies preferred. Knowledge of the processes of the independent adjusters and attorneys in order to manage claims and assist in litigation management.

Working Conditions:

Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (exempt)

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Travel as necessary.

Role is responsible for all aspects of full life cycle talent acquisition for current and future staffing needs. Responsibilities * Partner with claims leaders and HR managers to determine current and future job needs and hiring strategies. * Consult with and coach hiring managers in best practices, candidate experience, candidate selection, etc. * Sources qualified candidates using internal talent data, candidate database, postings, social media, website, job boards, employee referrals, professional organizations, networking, limited external recruiters, etc. * Screen and interview potential candidates to determine position/potential fit and recommend top qualified candidates to hiring managers. * Promote our Employee Referral program to attract qualified talent. * Maximize e-Recruiting tools to ensure quality candidates are hired in a timely manner. Ensure that statuses are updated in applicant tracking system (ATS) in a timely manner. * Stay current with technologies impacting talent acquisition, sourcing candidates, and insurance-related job descriptions. Maintain an understanding of market conditions. * Work closely with HR Managers in workforce planning, evaluating candidates and understanding goals and objectives impacting staff. * Build a strong understanding of the goals and responsibilities of our insurance operations, enabling a more effective talent acquisition process. * Analyze recruiting efforts and processes to determine and continuously refine best practices for effective / high quality talent acquisition, that focuses on a strong, positive candidate experience for both internal and external candidates. * Source candidate pools continuously, building a strong pipeline for future talent, maintaining open communications with future talent pool. * Ensure diversity recruitment strategies are used with all postings and make an effort at outreaching to associated candidates. * Provide appropriate training to leaders and employees on various talent topics (i.e., interviewing workshops, talent acquisition practices, career coaching, etc) * Manage associated 3rd party vendor relationships and contracts, ensuring compliance with company practices.
