Summary: Determine Claims litigation strategy, forecasting trends in Personal and Commercial Lines litigation as well as data analysis of the suits handled by the team. Lead Claims Legal to achieve prompt and equitable disposition of lawsuits against insureds or the company.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Communicate strategy to Personal Lines and Commercial Lines business unit partners. Create mechanism for ongoing business insight.

  • Technical supervision, oversight, analysis and reporting of complex litigated casualty claims (over $100,000) which includes Personal and Commercial Lines cases.

  • Develop, implement and follow-up on litigation programs and strategies, including thorough analysis of strategic direction.

  • Provide ongoing coaching and legal guidance to direct reports.

  • Provide frequent updates that affect litigation handling and strategy.

  • Regularly report on trial activity, new/closed/pending suits, verdicts, etc.

  • Review and assist in preparing written reports on legal large casualty claims' for Claims Authority Board (CAB).

  • Coordinate weekly CAB meetings and prepare summary report on cases.

  • Identify claims handling trends within large losses for training needs.

  • Diary and review high exposure and potentially dangerous lawsuits.

  • Participate in team roundtables, TLD and pre-litigation roundtables.

  • Maintain panel counsel roster and ensure quality standards are being met by both panel and house counsel.

What You'll Bring To The Company:

Juris Doctor degree preferred (licensed in the State of Ohio) or equivalent. A minimum of 10 years handling or managing litigated claims in-house for a P&C insurance carrier required. Recent commercial litigation handling or management preferred. CPCU and 5 years managerial experience preferred. Proven leadership skills with strong communication, organization and analytical skills needed to develop and successfully implement strategic and tactical plans.
